    anyone try to do a rack and pinion seal kit install? Is this one that i dont want to get involved in? is it best left to the professionals? kit was 100 bucks new rack is $800! ifanyone has how long did it take and what is involved? any special tools?

    i've never built a toyota rack,but have resealed a few honda's........you will need a PS rack seal tool kit,it will be impossible without it.

    I've never re-sealed a rack.. But I wouldn't think of having anyone else do it. Even if it took 500 bucks to buy the tool (if needed) It would be worth it vs paying to have it done.. At least the tool is a durable good that has value. Labor has no durable value and that's a huge labor job i'm guessing.

    Looking at the job on the intertube.. looks like the "special tool" is just a ring seating tool. Might be a funny one for the taco.. but for other vehicles you're talking 10-20 bucks.
