Dealerships can NOT void your warrantee for doing the work yourself. However, they do not have to cover someone else's work i.e. Jiffy Lube, Walmart. You do have to keep the receipts for the oil, filter and any other maintainace items required at the indicated mileage.

Once your free ones run out, you really should do your own. Get a fumoto drain valve too...they are awesome. The design on our trucks makes changing the oil super easy...and you can do it without spilling one tiny little drop.

Your friends are wrong, you can switch back & forth, you can mix synthetic & conventional. Just use the correct weight for your engine.

That is not true. Many vehicles come from the factory with synthetic oil as the initial fill.

Don't use those crappy filters. Here's a place to get 10 genuine toyota filters for $40 and free shipping. Hard to beat that. Bid $40 and they'll accept it:

They're charging you the difference from using the "free" oil that you are not charged. It's not full synthetic. They are just charging you the difference.

No it doesn't. If you do the work yourself and keep the receipts then you're going to be fine. They just say that to scare you into taking it into them because they try to get people think they're retarded and can't change their oil. Hence if you have ever been charged $60.00 to change the cabin air filter that takes 3 minutes to change. The only time that your warranty is going to be voided if something were to happen from what you did. They have to prove that your oil change caused the OEM equipment to fail.

OP, just prepurchase your synthetic oil like a previous poster suggested, and hand it off to the service department with specific instructions, you can get synthetic oil for as little as $20 for 5.2 quarts when there are sales....that way you spend only @$20 or so versus the $38 the dealer charged you...they also raped you on the synthetic pricing, you should have only paid the difference between reg oil pricing and the synthetic....even @$4 per quart more, it should have been around $20, they got you good...
