I read the laws for ny state and if I read correctly ny seems to be the most strict and only allow 70% tint. Which sounds useless... I think? Anyway I don't really care because my girlfriend has tints and I believe their 35% and she never had a problem, but i wanted to get some opinions. I wanted to get limo tints on the back door windows and the back window, but would it look dumb if I got 35% on the front windows? I get my black taco today and tints are the first thing I want too do. Any suggestions would be great and if you have a similar setup pictures would be lovely.

Already searched the forums and only found one thread but it wasn't too hopefull.

    Thank you!!

Do NOT do this in NY, you're asking for a ticket. My cousin is a State Trooper there and it's just a great reason to get pulled over. There are no laws governing the back window or the windows on the rear door, go as dark as you want. You can go a couple shades darker than legal and not get hassled, they're concern is they want to be able to see what's in the car in the event you get pulled over, it's a safety precaution for the police. It will not look dumb having different tint on the front vs the front. I have that done on mine and did the same when I lived in NY on past vehicles. At 35% you're pushing your luck and can legally get ticketed but if you're not driving like an ass you'll probably be fine.

here is a list of state regulations. http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

Most people on here end up tinting to 20% to match the rest of the truck and live with the fact that it is illegal. I had 20% until an asshole broke them out and tried to steal a bunch of shit. But I'll be getting 20% again in a few weeks.

I have posted these before because this thread comes along every so often. I went with 35% on the front and it matched the backs fairly well.

As long as you don't draw attention to yourself you should be okay. Better in person vice the picture:

I have 20% on my m3 and 15% on the Taco. I'd recommend 15%. 20 is too light imo.

I've got limo in the back window and the rear side ones. I have the shade lighter on my fronts (don't know what the % is).
Look in my gallery, there's a pic of my truck in there. Unless the sun is beaming in from the opposite side it's very hard to tell there's a different between fronts and backs.

Don't live in NY so I can't chime in there. Sorry.

    Hope it helps :)

The % is supposed to represent the amount of transmitted light. So yea, lower # = darker.

I have 2% on the back and 5% up front on my black taco and it looks great not worried about what the cops have to say. If it is such a safety issue ask me to roll the window down and put my hands out before you approach me. I think it is just an excuse for them to have more power.

I don't know much about tint but am going to get mine done soon.

I have the TRD OR with the factory "tint." A friend told me this is actually "smoked" glass? Is it 20% that best matches the factory rear tint? Would it possible to tint the back darker and do 20% up front, or would the rear have to be stripped first? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I work with firearms -- so I don't know jack about auto glass. Put those two together and you can see the desire for an extra dark rear tint... I almost never leave anything valuable in the truck, but I am overly cautious.

50% on fronts and 35% on back for me - I wish I went darker cuz you can barely tell it is tinted. I would've went darker but didn't want to worry about gettin pulled over even though I see people with limo tint on fronts all over.

An interesting thing I noticed with the front tinted is that my polarized Maui Jim's along with the tint adds interesting color affects. You will get yellow's through purple's depending on the angle the sun is hitting the windshield across your whole view.
