My theory is: They kept the 1st Gen body style for 8 years (96-04). After 4 years, in 01 they changed up the front end a little bit and kept that for 4 years (01-04). The 2nd Gen has been around for 5 years. After 4 years, they switched up the front end a little bit on the 2011. They'll probably keep it for 4 years before completely redesigning.

I talked to a Toyota rep at the NYC international auto show about this and he said 2014, and that the new design won't be substantially different from 2nd gens. But it's entirely possible he didn't know what he was talking about.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
True ... 5 years and they still did not figure out there are people buying those trucks outside of California so they need frames painted with real paint not a spray can. :D but today i saw new "initiative" by some retards to make bumpers at the same lvl which could mean trucks will get lower to the ground. As I said with time new changes are usually screw ups and useless crap. designed to fix lack of knowledge.

Keep in mind that, manufacturers generally never announce new products too far in advance, since such announcements could have a dramatic impact on their current inventory.

Of course there will be a redesign at some point. Even though light duty truck sales have severely plummeted in the last 10 years, Tacoma is the best selling truck in its class. It's not going anywhere.

    Too few to list.
I still say we'll see a new Tacoma in 2012 but probably as a 2013 model.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I sure hope you are wrong. One of the things very appealing to me is to get into a good 4x4 vehicle for $20k. I see them around me quite a bit, including mine, but maybe it is my location.

I work at Toyota and I have not heard anything official. Based off of their normal cycle though I am thinking it will be a 2013 model that will probably arrive in fall of 2012.

x3, our company rented a uhaul pick up for me while my previous truck was in the shop, i was driving back home on the highway and the light went off, i have seen these alot in all my vehicles when they first came out, i have had the light come on when the weather became really cold, however i was driving in the summer and i noticed the light came on and i was like what the fuck! i immediately pressed the brakes and the next thing i knew the truck was pulling hard to the left, the drivers rear tire blew, i was thankful that i was breaking at that point, on a 2 lane highway going at above 65 with on coming traffic closing in. I really think that save me from hitting the car that was on coming....

I bought an '09 instread of an '08 largely to get all the things he doesn't want. My observations on the above:

    1. Airbags - He has obviously never seen someones face after impact with the steering wheel.
    2. ABS - He's never driven in a fresh rain in an unloaded truck.
    3. TPMS - I do agree this is useless.
    4. Fancy carpets - makes the truck much quieter than vinyl floor covers.
    5. Fancy seat covers - mine consist of two terrycloth towels.
    6. Electric climate control - Doesn't live in the South
    7. Drive by wire - If I push the pedal down and the vehicle goes who cares how it is connected to the engine.
    8. Traction control - He has never tried to haul a boat up a slippery boat ramp.

So if you live in an environment that is a constat 70 degrees, never have some crazy idiot cross over the centerline, never drive in the rain or on a slippery surface or care how loud your truck is you can be like him.

BTW, its now looking like the redesign will be the 2014 model.
