4 wheel drive tacoma

Hi everybody, I'm new to this site. I hoping someone can help me.
I have 2008 tacoma V-6, 6 speed manual. I love this truck.
resentley I noticed something I never experienced before, we had our first snow here in ill and roads where a little slushy so i decided to activate the 4 wheel drive just for fun and noticed when i pulled into a dry parking lot and tried to stear into the parking spot it was like putting on the brakes, it would not move unless pushed really hard, after taking it off 4 wheel drive, or stearing the front wheels to straight position it was fine again. planning on taking it in for service but wanted to know if anybody has this same issue or it may be normal. any feedback is apreciated.

 

NORMAL... 4WD is for poor traction road or no roads... As soon as you are on dry pavement, return to 2WD...

In 4WD, the front and back drive shafts are locked together, but the wheels all turn at different speeds, so so slipping must occur and off road or wet roads that isn't a problem.

yeah no 4 wheel drive on dry pavement. For slushy roads you will be fine in 2wd.

 

the braking feeling will be worse in 4 wheel low i use 4 wheel high in poor driving conditions.

Glad you joined... I started posting here regularly one year ago to learn about my 2010's traction controls... as the manual and salesmen couldn't provide the details I seek... but the gang here were very helpful. I decided to payback TWers by getting the details posted in a way I could understand them, and hopefully others who think the way I do will benefit as well. Your question was an easier one that applies to all Part Time 4WDs on pavement... 'er DRY pavement... Since you can shift on-the-fly, just pop in and out of 4WD-HI when your truck has difficulty driving but never when slowly turning tight into a parking spot.

Oh good. The monthly "4 wheel on dry pavement" question. Running a litle late this month.

Welcome to TW, BTW! Now go finish reading your owner's manual, and note that it recommends driving a few miles (straight!) with it on monthly to keep the gears lubed.

Now all we need is Skistoy to chime in and tell you it's OK to run it on dry pavement , in fact it's says so in the manual .

It says no such thing.

The manual indeed says to run at least 10 miles in 4wd per month as maintenance. NOWHERE in there does it say to do so on dry pavement.
