What is better TRD intake or K&N intake?

i was wondering what intake was better for a 2006 Tacoma? Also, if they sound loud and worth the money?

 

I've been running the k&n for a few years now.Yes,It's louder.Worth the money?..No,If your set on using an intake,Go w/the TRD. OR...Save yourself some cash and just go with an AfE dry flow drop in filter.

If you like the louder sound enough, then it's worth the money. You won't see any noticeable performance gain. Your stock airbox is already drawing cold air from the fender well.

 

I vote for TRD. It looks good, fits perfect, the filter is nearly 2x the size of stock.

FWIW, i heard K&N dyno's vehicles with the engine bay open. If that is true, their hp gains could be flawed due to not having all that hot air trapped under a closed hood.

TRD draws air from behind the fender.

 

None of them are "better"; some are noisier, some provide a "ram air"effect,some are more expensive, but none really provide any real performance boost.

Another thing to consider is (and you probably already know this, but it seems a lot of folkes dont) that the intake alone is not much of a performance item with additional engine upgrades. "cold air intake" is a misnomer, better to say it is a "ambiant outside air, not engine compartment air" intake.

There is a plus, however small, if you consider the airflow and easing of the engines ability to breathe a bit better but to take full advantage you need to add a better exhaust also.

Not to mention, is it me or has anyone wrapped their CAI with header or painted theirs with HIGH TEMP paint--I wonder if that would benefit the "Cold Air" effect?
