I am MECP certified and have been doing 12v automotive electrical for years. I can guarantee this diagram to be 100% accurate and also the "correct" way it should be wired. The only thing that would change this diagram is if your switch had an indicator light on it, then your switch wiring would be different, but the rest remains the same. The Relay should be located either in the cab towards the front, or in the engine compartment. It would not make sense to put the relay in the back of the truck because then you have to run 2 wires all the way up (1 for batter and 1 for switch) vs just running 1 wire if the relay is up front (light to relay pin 87 wire).

Incase you have never used a relay, when you get one, it will have 5 pins on the back and if you look at it closely the numbers will be imprinted into the plastic. Just match them upto the diagram above. If you find a 4-pin relay that is fine also, it it the same thing except without pin-87a which is not used anyways. But a 5-pin relay is more common and can be found at any autoparts store for $5-10 max

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply here or PM me if you need further assistance.

DOING THIS WILL EVENTUALLY DO SERIOUS DAMAGE OR CAUSE FAILURE OF YOUR REVERSE CICUIT!

CORRECT, EXCEPT DONT USE PARKING LIGHT WIRE, THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO HAVE PARKING LIGHTS ON TO USE AUX LIGHTS ANYTIME WHICH WILL GET ANNOYING... JUST USE AN IGNITION OR ACCESSORY WIRE AT THE IGNITION HARNESS IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT KILLING YOUR BATTERY.

 SORRY, BUT THIS WAS STUPID... 4 55W LIGHTS WITHOUT A RELAY... I GIVE UP

    +1 THIS IS MY SETUP:

NO, NO , NO! YOU NEED YOUR OWN RELAY FROM THE BATTERY. NEVER USE ANY FACTORY CIRCUIT WITHOUT PROTECTING IT WITH A RELAY!

    THIS CONFUSED ME EVEN

    NO!

    CORRECT! FINALLY!

NO AGAIN! YOUR TRAILER PLUG IS AN OEM CIRCUIT AND NOT DESIGNED TO POWER AUXILIARY LIGHTS IN THIS MANNER. USE A RELAY TO THE BATTERY (AND A FUSE)
