Hey ladies and gents I gotta question about an oil leak.

What is the worst that can happen to my truck if I don't take care of this $700 fix for an engine leak?

I have 93600 miles and just had my rear differential worked on since my earlier report of a "whining" sound coming from the middle section of the truck.

Thanks for all of your wise words!

Would need more info to let you know "WHAT" might happen. Oil is the life blood of the vehicle. No oil in truck... Truck go nowhere.. A new engine for close to 5-6 grand. Hmmm??? The more info we have the more we can tell you.

If I don't see any oil where i park does that mean the leak is minimal for now? So I can save my money until I have enough to get it fixed

its not actually dripping out? I would say, obviously its better to get it fixed, but if its not a constant dripping out then just keep an eye on the oil level. Worst thing you can do is let it run out of oil, trust me i know haha

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Constantly check your oil levels. Where and how did they say it was leaking?

I just got my TSB done for my oil leak. It was the timing cover that they had to replace. There is actually a good number of trucks on here that had this same problem. They also swapped out my water pump cause it was slightly leaking as well so I'm glad they caught that. But then again your over warranty so I'm not sure what you can do but pay out of your own pocket to get it fixed.

I don't have any idea where its leaking since the dealer told me about it. I don't have any pics either but I can take one I suppose. Should I take a general pic from underneath the hood?

I FOUND A LEAK SEALER THAT HAS WORKED ON A FORD F350 DIESEL WITH MULTIPLE LEAKS. IT STOPPED ALL THE ENGINE LEAKS EXCEPT THE ONE AT THE DIPSTICK PLASTIC FITTING. IT ALSO STOPPED A LEAK ON MY JDEERE 5410 TRACTOR. IT WORKS ON THE SEALS.
THE WEB SITE IS SEAL LUBE. COM OR GOOGLE SEALLUBE. THEY ARE LOCATED IN MICHIGAN. I JUST BOUGHT 4 MORE BOTTLES FOR BACKUP.
    HOPE THIS HELPS.

Did the dealer say where the leak was coming from? If it were my truck I wouldn't have left there without them at least showing me what they were talking about...

DO NOT use this on the 1GR-FE engine. There is NO evidence proving it is safe for use in an egine with variable valve timing.

OP, you need to get aggressive and find this leak. Do you see any oil "sweating" from the engine? Any wet spots? Or is the dealer just giving yu some bs to replace something for nothing?????

It is time to get to know your rig. Change your clothes and put some old ones and get dirty with your rig. Find that leak and return to us with your findings.

Do not use any type of sealer on this or any other engine. They tend to clog up somethings that are not meant to clog. Those are ok if stuck in the middle of nowhere. Even then i'd start walking. Seen lots of evidence of what those thungs can do. Fix the vehicle properly. :crapstorm:

If the dealership (or any shop for that matter) just said you had a oil leak without explaining IN DETAIL where it was coming from, I would never go back there again.

Get a second opinion somewhere else.

Worst thing that can happen is it gets worse rapidly and blows all the oil out while you're driving then the engine blows up.

If it's the timing cover leak, I doubt that would happen. Just keep it full of oil and you're okay. But there are other things that could be leaking that can go from not so bad to blown engine real quick. For example, an loose oil filter.

That's real interesting...I had no idea these leak stopper products were effective at stopping any leaks, let alone something inside the engine they aren't supposed to. But then I never use them anyway:eek:.

Any idea which kinds in particular to avoid?

sadly, I've only put Husky Liners in it thus far - tend to blow all my cash on my bikes and guitars.
$700 oil leak repair?!?!?! WTF?!?!? Is it the rear main seal then? That seems an outrageous amount unless they have to drop the engine to repair the leak

I just had to have my front main seal and harmonic balancer replaced.. that ran me about $550 so it may not be out of line to pay $700.

OP you need to find out where its leaking from and constantly check the oil levels till you get it fixed
