(relatively) dumb question about a cut lift...

Hi,

So, this question is for anybody who has put a 6" lift that required a frame cut....

Since I bought my truck back in July, I've been itching to put a lift on it. I keep bouncing back and forth between a 3" and a 6" and finally have decided that if i'm going to do it, i'm going all the way with a 6"....

So, last month, I was at the dealership getting my "complimentary" service/oil change... and I was chatting with my salesman... and I told him about my hopeful future plans of doing the lift. But then, I told him since I tend to get a new ride every few years (dont ask me why...) I asked about resale value or trade in.... He told me that he sells used/lifted trucks fast and they go like hot cakes so I would get top dollar etc....

Then, I told him about the how you have to cut the frame for the diff drop etc... and he then told me that he would advise against that lift, because if that is the case, they will then put the truck in the same class as salvage/frame altered/frame damaged and cut the value in half...

This didn't make any much sense to me, and I was wondering if anybody else has heard this or ran into this one way or the other...

On another note, I'm going to open another thread to look for anybody who did a self-install of a procomp kit and see if its rather doable in my garage rather to spend for installation on a shop I dont really trust anyway..

 

What he said about putting the truck in the same class with the salvage/frame altered is BS IMO. All the 6" kits that most if not all dealerships sell are Procomp or Fabtech, which require cutting of the crossmember on 4x4's. On Prerunners it's a different story, because IIRC you don't have to cut (or not cut as much).

 

No cuttin required for a 2wd. (no front driveshaft)

Dont listen to what hes telling you. If you do the cutting right nobody will be able to tell something was cut unless they look under a stock truck.

 

That's exactly what I'm thinking....

I mean, it doesn't bother me one bit (as a would be buyer) that the frame was cut to put a lift on...

Oh well, just wanted to make sure from the guys who knew...
