I havent picked up the truck yet. Have to decide tommorrow when I sign for it. It is a brand new 2011 Tacoma crew cab. Would you pay $1500 for a 5 year 100k warranty??? Says you get the money back if you dont use it. It is the factory bumper to bumper warranty

Use the search window and you will read a ton of info on extended warranty. I have owned Toyota trucks since my first new one I bought in 1989. I have never purchased an extended warranty or had the need for one.

When I bought my '09 you could buy the warranty from any dealer. Shop around on the internet and see what you can do then approach your dealer when you go in to sign to get a price match.

I went back to my dealer around 32000 miles to see what they wanted. Of couse it was high. I said well thats ok will just certifiy my milege then because I can get the same warrenty online from from another dealer.
    I ended up getting 125000 7/year for either 1050 or1125 cant remember.

At this point it remains to be seen if it was worth it or not,

    I wouldn't get it......atleast NOT NOW.

Read the fine print and get details. I've never had a Toyota warrantee, but I have purchased other brand extended warranties.

#1) Most Extended warrantees START the day you sign the papers. So, after your FREE 3/36 is up....your 5 year extended warrantee only lasts for 2 more years. Make sure you get details on how TOYOTA deals with this.

#2) You WILL NOT get your money back. In most cases....if you sell the truck before the extended warrantee is up, you'll only get the refund for what's left on the warrantee. Say for instance, your warrantee is good for 5 years. You sell the truck after 4 years.... you'll only get 1 year (pro-rated) of money back, that's it.

#3) Look at your basic warrantee coverage. After the 3/36 warrantee is over.... your drivetrain components are warranteed for another 2-3 years (can't remember the details). Get details on exactly what the warrantee covers (or doesn't cover) and compare that to your basic warrantee. Some things can overlap.

#4) Shop around... There's a guy at a Massachusetts Dealership that's been offering extended warrantees very cheap. Search for it....His name is Troy Dietrich.

I got the 7yr/100000 mile warranty that starts after the factory warranty expires, for 850. For the few dollars it adds to your payment, I think its worth it IMO. Good luck and enjoy the new Taco!

    I had never bought one for a toyota truck before until my 2006. (87, 90, 95, 06).
I waited until my factory warranty was almost up to gauge my decision.
I did end up buying it right before the 3/36 was up with the info found on the forums much cheaper.
(Troy Greenfield Toyota extra 4 yrs 7/100/0 4wd paid $880).
I have already used the warranty.
If you set on buying it to roll into your payment, shop around for it & maybe the dealer will price match.
    Congrats on your new truck!

If you spread the cost over the terms of payments it is well worth it. It's when you go on the back end after the sale and purchase it that gets expensive.
