This is surprising. Test drove a 5.3 silverado before I bought my Tacoma, it pulled HARD compared to the Tacoma. Always thought the diesel would be faster. Maybe weight is a factor?

I always thought deisels were slower. You don't see them building deisel race cars and I always let those Hilux drivers eat my dust at the light.

It pulled hard because deisels have a lot more torque, horsepower to weight ratio is what makes you go fast.

Its a truck. They are fast for what they are, but they are not made for speed. Even though you can make them "fast". So I say who cares imo. But the Tacoma can beat ALOT of V8's. Maybe SOME diesels. But the Tacoma CAN kick their asses in the dirt and trails! :woot:

I drove a friends 06 F350 turbo diesel and it didn't feel as fast as I expected, but holy hell was there a lot of torque. That impressed me.

The F350 weighs around 7000lbs. Just in case anyone was wondering, that's about 3000 more than a Tacoma.

the old stock 7.3 diesel is slow on the start the turbo does not spoil up very fast. having owned a couple i will tell you know way it will beat a Tacoma stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now put in a new exhaust, air intake, turbo shroud, then chip it with something like the edge evolution and there is no way in hell a stock Tacoma can keep up. now my Tacoma will out wheel the diesel and the turning radius is incredible in comparison.

on my 2000 i did all the above mods i could burn my 35's without a problem, my favorite thing to do was on step hills when some dude who thought he was hot shit would try to pass or cut me off i would leave him in a cloud of black smoke. the truck was fast for a crew cab long bed that weighed in about 7400 pounds.

a friend of mine has a 02 f350 single wheel with the 7.3L and off road the thing is next to useless even in 4x4. but it has a 5'' straight exaust a chip, intake, and a new upgraded turbo. it hauls ass. but it cant keep up off road in any way. and rides like it has square wheels.

Tacoma with some stuff melted to it

Exaclty. I suggested two races to make it fair. One on a perfectly smooth drag strip and one down a rutted, whooped out trail. Then add the 2 times and compare. The diesel will lose. However the diesel will pull the same time whether its empty or towing a 5000lb toy hauler with no wheels
