2005. Misfire?

    Today I was driving my Tacoma and it started jerking pretty bad. I don't know if it was missing or what but I felt the jerking. Do you know what it could be? I recently changed the spark plugs and found out that the previous owner ruined 2 bolts that hold the part that connects the wire to the plug although it seems to be held in place ok?:confused:

    After doing a lot of searching, I couldnt find any cracks. One hole is stripped in the engine block and the other hole is fine its just the bolt head came off and I have to way to get it out. I tried an extracter but I got no luck. Also, I was told that a hielcoil would be good for the stripped hole on the block? im not sure

    oh and I cleaned the MAF and the airfilter is clean as well. It all started when I changed the plugs and noticed the problem.

    Are these these for the bolts that hold the coil packs down? If so, they aren't threaded into the block but into the valve covers. I think a helicoil would work just fine, just don't torque 'em down so tight in the future. They don't really need it and it sounds like PO did just that.

    Ya I noticed you are right. I realize that I can either get helicoils or new valve covers. A set of valve covers is about 500 but Im not sure about the helicoils or if they are durable. Can anyone vouche for that?

    Leveling kit, K&N drop in, and a Loud Ass Stereo :)
    Helicoils are just about as durable as regular threads in my opinion. I've used them in some pretty serious motor applications on motorcycles and they held up really well. This is if you do them correctly, that is.

    Just to add to that.... My company installed helicoils in a cast aluminum housing for line mounted CATV amplifiers. They put the helicoils in because tech's had to get inside them twice a year to adjust the gains of the amps and they had to pull-up the housing really tight for weather seal as well as RFI. Just threading into the aluminum would not have held up under that useage and give 10 years service.

    For this application where the bolt isn't taking any load worth mentioning, helicoils will last far longer than the original aluminum threads. Just be sure to install them carefully: use a bottoming tap and coil of right length.
