Exactly- is sacrificing downtravel and possibly traction better or worse than gaining an inch more of ground clearance but loosing travel by doing so? Now we dont have much sand dunes or rocks down here, but we do have deep ruts and soft sticky clay.

I'm Currently running duratrac 265/75/16 with no problems on a stock 4x4 AC base. And the tires perform awesome.. I almost think better then my BFG mt's I had on my 86..

I had a Ready lift 3in for about 1000mi little stiffer ride cause I had aal and 1in blocks in the rear together took it off and sitting in my garage. I notice no advantage with a 3in vs stock. IMO id stay stock unless you fork over your leg for a good lift

Huuummm your not the only one. After 7 different 4x4s I keep saying Im going to lift one of them and then I find out how much gets screwed up because of lifting them and back out every time. My brand new taco needs to get rid of that elec transfer case more than anything so out goes the lift again. So far the only time I get stuck is when I cant shift into 4low.

Have you seen the photos of where I go... stock, BFG Rugged Fails... It is the 4WD and traction control that makes this truck go... Sure, I got a bit of body damage on one trip... but is that worth all the other days of the year raised when you don't need it?

Go with a better tire... size up to 265/75-16... that is 1 inch taller than stock TRD Off Road size (if that is what you are) and get a good mud tires... Cooper Discoverer STT or BFG Mud Terrain TA or Toyo Open Country MTs! No body lift needed! You will have nearly 10 inches of minimum ground clearance.

Agreed, better tires are a good start, but the real problem with these trucks in stock form is angles - approach, departure, or breakover they're just too low.

A 3 inch lift fixes that, and if done right *increases* suspension travel. Add real armor, and these things will crawl over put-near anything.

Good armor will allow someone to potentially skip a lift, but I see a lot of high-centering situations slowing down their day.
