front differential side bearing replacement.. done!

Well I finally got around to replacing the drivers side output shaft needle bearing in my front diff to resolve the typical grinding noise. Im talking about the noise that exists in 2wd and goes away in 4wd.

I used a 3 jaw puller on a slide hammer that I rented from autozone. It took about 5 min of hammering but it came out without any big problems. I also replaced my cv axle while I was taking everything apart

And the verdict is... totally gone! From taking a test drive up to 70mph the noise is totally gone! It took me about 5 hours to do everything, and the biggest problem I had was finding space to get the axle out.

 

Awsome! Im about to take my truck to toyota to see if they will cover it under my warrenty.
But if not I would probably do it myself.
How bad is it to do?

Pictures? For those of us that haven't ever done anything like this, a step-by-step DIY with pics would be really good! And if someone in NorCal is going to do it, I'd be willing to travel to your location to take pics along the way for a DIY.

Im taking my truck to the dealer tomarrow and hopefully they tell me that there ganna replace it! they didnt seem to mind I had the lift on.

 

I'm tempted to call BS on this. If it was as easy as the OP makes it out to be a lot more people would have done it already, with pics to prove it.

He probably had some kind of clue how to turn a wrench, I saw alot of guys saying on TW that it took them 5-6hrs someone even said all day to put a front set of 5100's some people just don't know what they're doin, the OP obviously did

Not bs.. one would firat need to know what the hell to replace first.. that was not identified until recently..

 

Yeah and why would it not just fail again if you used the same part?? Pics of the destroyed bearing in question would be great....and put all these rumors to rest.

my old bearing wasnt 'destroyed'. it just had no lubricant left in it
