.

Well, the long awaited TSB is finally here.

Hmmm, after looking it over all I can say is 'it's better than nothing'. I'm going to let you guys peruse it and see what you think.

Good. And it's covered by the powertrain warranty. Hopefully mine starts making the noise before 5 years is up.

Unless I'm missing something, this looks like what they've already been doing. R/R with the same junk. I'm still going to have the PDM kit installed next week. Rather spend the $200 and be done with it!

It says "Changes have been made to the clutch system to eliminate this noise."

Nice...but I'm out of warranty, so I guess I will just deal with the chirp until it comes time to replace my clutch.

I see said the blind man! So what to do here... should I get the PDM kit or just try this? If covered under powertrain, I'm good for two more years.

Figure 5. "It is normal to see wear on the transmission input sleeve."

Still glad I have the URD solution sitting in my garage. Just need to time to install that thing.

If you're under warranty I would have the TSB done because it has Toyota's name behind it. If there are further problems you can go back to them.

I would like to do both but we'll see what the dealer says. The sleeve wear being normal is what the PDM or URD kit is all about!

Yep, that one line in the TSB bothers me a little too.

A Toyota mech from the FJ board says the new bearing is physically much larger (call it thicker or wider or taller when laying flat on a surface). Plus the fork arm support and slave cylinder are both new items shown in the TSB. It kind of looks like what they're doing is placing a heavier (and wider) bearing in there. The inner race would then be 'wider' to provide more contact area with the shaft. Under a load from the fork it will be less likely to wobble/rock on the shaft.

Is this the answer for long term reliability in this area ? Who knows, I guess time and mileage will tell.

.

Any updates? I just printed out the TSB and plan on going by the dealership with it in hand to see what we can do.
