Hit a Guard Rail at about 60mph...

Hey guys.. I was coming home from the mountain sunday night, took an exit ramp a little too quick and hit some black ice. Hit the guardrail with the passenger side at about 60 mph. I thought the truck would be all smashed up, luckily the body and wheels are only a little scratched.. I think my spidertrax wheel spacers helped save the body from being hit too hard.
BUT, I took it to the dealer for them to fix what I hoped was just the alignment.. Turns out I bent a lower control arm and a knuckle.. $1600 to replace and install. F**K ME!!!!!!!

Any opinions on if I should just pay it, or go through insurance, or if I should just drive it like this and replace it myself once it gets warmer out?
Never used insurance before so I don't know what it will do to my rates..

I guess that also depends on what your deductible is.

I vote insurance. They have always been helpful to me. Depends on your company, policy, and deductible. In my case those repair would cost $250.

 

For that price go with TC lowers!!

 

insurance. say it was a hit and run

you say it was your fault, your insurance goes up. hit and run, all you pay is deductible

Until they find this thread and get him for insurance fraud. Any experienced adjuster could easily notice the damage from a guardrail VS. another vehicle so I would strongly suggest not trying to pull one over on them.

Say get the parts of someone who went LT. You could get them for cheap. Then install yourself.

 

And you wonder why insurance costs so much?
OP...Just man up and pay the deductable...your rates might go up but you brought it on yourself.

Yea not trying to commit insurance fraud..
If I wanted to go the aftermarket route.. What are some good but cheaper ones to look at? Additionally what would I be gaining by replacing with aftermarket instead of stock? Would this set me up better for a larger lift or different backspaced wheels or something? Ill do a lot more research when I get home and have access to a computer.. I'm on my blackberry at work since this is the only thing on my mind right now

 

Not worth getting stock fitting aftermarket lowers IMO. You will be just fine with a lift and stock lowers.

I say use the insurance and then repair with aftermarket arms. My truck was hit while parked and had minor damage to the front bumper and broken tabs on the headlight and the insurance adjustor said the damage to the lights could not have come from the impact! (Trust me the were not broken before) So I would not suggest you try to play it off like a hit and run. Not worth the risks.

 

Don't f@@k around-get it fixed properly AND make sure it is tracking right and not like a crab on the sand. A 60MPH trauma broadside changed the integrity of more than what meets the eye-I guarantee you.

To the victim if the guard rail, do the right thing because this is something you don't want to get in trouble for. I'm pretty sure you have been put on the radar already.
