Helpful thoughts on a 05 tacoma 4cyl

Hi everyone, looking to buy this 2005 Tacoma. Its a single cab 4 cylinder auto with 110,000 miles. 2wd. I think the mpg would be great for my business seeing as I drive about 50 - 150 miles a day as a courier. I occasionally see the snow with this job too. Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any advice or anything they could tell me that would be good to know before I bought it.

I have the same truck, but a 2010. Definitely gets awesome gas mileage and has more than enough grunt to move 1,000+ pounds. I've had mine in the snow 3 times as of now, and I really couldn't be more impressed with a 2wd truck. Just make sure it has a decent set of tires on it.

Before you buy I would just check all the basics...do they have a list of all the maintenance that was done? Spark plugs, oil changes, differential and transmission fluid changes, etc.?

 

Post a pic if you can, however you cant go wrong. 110 is just breaking in on that truck. What are they asking?

 

All good stuff to know. Its a used car lot that has it. asking 8k. the guy said it was used basically for the same reason that I want to use it for which is driving all over. I'm going to ask them about all that info though. regardless, I'm most likely going to take it to toyota and have it checked through before. thanks again guys

I love my 4banger. Its a 4x4 but I only go into 4wd in pretty heavy snow. If you have good tires and a couple hundred pounds in the bed you should be able to keep traction. Good Luck, and we would love to see some pics.

What is this 4 banger capable of pushing? Like tires, lift, etc. I'm going to buy it and I would like to do maybe a 2inch lift with some tires

 

I have the same truck with an access cab, I did a 3" lift with 30" tires. My 4cyl does not like it, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear are fine. You have to be going good to use 4th and hauling ass on the highway to use 5th, fuel economy took a dump. I need to re-gear but its so expensive its not worth it. Either way I love my truck, and it will be a very long time before I part with it.

there arent many options to lift our 5luggers, but they do look good after you lift it, the biggest you can run is a 31, nesselerah runs a 33 but he has an aftermarket front bumper.

you do have the option of regearing, but like johns taco said, its expensive and you really dont need it until you get to a 33" tire

 

yeah i wasnt thinking anything gnarly just a two inch to look good and maybe 285s or something to do a little better in the snow and mud. I don't wanna change the gas mileage though so maybe just tires. either way, whatever I do i'll post pics

 

yeah, i dont think youll be able to fit 285s without trimming alot

 

31 on the highway if you know what you're doing...

 

Stock tires fail hard in the snow.

Make sure you have some decent ones! It's a good truck. Just ugly if it's stock.
