09 engine break in?

Hello,

I usually like to welcome myself to new forums with a probably beaten to death thread so here goes.

Any recommended break in procedure for the a new 09 engine? I just used the heat cycle method with my new Triumph Speed Triple and that process goes against the manufacturer's break in procedure. Where you push the engine through modest accel/decel short trips all the while changing the oil. I know motorcycles and autos are different so I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for your advice and insults!

I was told that before I use the cruise to have 1000 miles on my 09 first. I figure as tight as these Taco's are it will take it a long time to really get broken in but I must say....mine is already getting over 21mpg around town so I cant wait to get it out on the highway this weekend for a road trip. Currently I have 400 miles on it.

 

Thanks for the reply, what you have done to secure your tailgate and camera? I'm worried about theft of these items...

Well nothing so far but I am having an undercover installed today that will lock but not sure if thats enough to keep the tailgate in place or not. If the come out with a pop lock for this one with the camera I will probably get that one for when I am traveling. While I am at work I really dont have to worry about things so much and I am at work more than anywhere.

 

i thought the truck comes in break-in oil so it is already broken in.. maybe I'm wrong.

I've used my cruise control from day 1.
Do the hose clamp on your tailgate!
My undercover should be here soon, the instal looks pretty easy from the pdf on their site. Where is that brown truck at?

 

I have used the cruise a couple times myself and plan to use it tomorrow. I had my undercover installed today and looked really easy. Make sure to "tuck" the rubber seal at the cab once you get it installed so it seals off right. They also put some little clear protector dots on the cab where the rings are just to prevent them from scratching the cab in the even that they did touch for some reason. No not yet. I just got it put on 3 hours ago and its been raining....as soon as I get some clear weather this weekend I will get pics posted.

 

Yeah those are important or just dont use the rings, my old taco had scratches from those things, I took them off after a few years but had to sand, prime and use touch up paint.

 

I thinking about what I can use in their place that would be safer to the finishes. I was almost thinking about a zip tie or something like that but would need to make the hole a little bigger.

I installed my cover today. Took a while to get it lined up fairly close to what specs call for. I put the rings in, they aren't close the cab at all.

 

Cany anyon explain to me what an undercover is and where I can buy one?

Undercover = tonneau/hard cover for the bed of your truck.
