highway cruising

hey guys im in the market for a 2011 tacome or frontier just trying to decide which i might get

What speeds can the 6cylnder taco cruise @ on highway....will it do 80 nicely or will it be laboring to hold the wind forces down and maintain a nice cruise

My 2010 V6 Manual can hold 100 mph easy without bogging down in 6th gear. You can even pass people quite easily without even down shifting in sixth gear. The v6 is not underpowered by any means, and has a 3.73 axle ratio with is a good all around ratio for highway cruising and off the line get up.

 

I have a 2011 4cyl and it does take a little bit to pick up speed but once going rides well at highway speed. Just in case you wanted to looke at smaller engine.

 

Will cruise easily at 5 over any posted limit. I find that if I don't have cruise control set, I'll drift up way too high without noticing it because it doesn't labor. I think part of that is because 6th gear is a bit too low for my liking.

 

I've cruised at 75 all day with no problems. I've pulled some steep mountain grades loaded to the hilt with firewood and passed people on the way up. The Taco has plenty of juice.

 

I too get going way to fast in my truck. My last truck didn't have cruise and so I forget to set mine now. I'll get a ticket for 20 over if I don't watch out. I'm often doing 90 and don't realize it.

No laboring in my v6

 

had my V6 towing another car on a flatbed, doing 100MPH on the trans-Canada hwy no problem.

Thanks all for the feed back guys im glad cruising is good in the taco cause im most likey gonna get a double cab trd sport w JBL and i do alot of highway driving . I was scared that a pickup might night be to good at highway driving but glad to hear all responses pretty much said otherwise

Yeah your good i have a 1st Gen with 33's and I cruse at 90 with no issues unless I'm going up a steep hill but that's because of my tires.

 

LOL ill be doing zero off road though...plus id llike the better JBL stereo

 

BEWARE!!! With the Sport package that fake hood scoop adds another 20hp!

 

You can get the JBL without the sport package. However as an owner of the "upgraded" JBL system, I can tell you it's not worth the $750 adder, you're better off getting the base system and spending the $750 at Crutchfield....But that's an issue for another thread...

I'm just kidding about the sport package, personally, I don't see the point of it, but many on here like theirs immensly.

 

lol yea i hear ya....id hate rip apart the console on a brand new truck to upgrade the stereo..im sure it would be fine though....so the JBL blows?

i like the bilstiens on either sport or O/R...i had custom bilsteins on my various sports cars and they are the best made period.

 

I wouldn't say it blows. It's just not work $750. And you'd be suprised how easy it is to replace the deck. I had to install an aftermarket iPod adapter to mine and that involved pulling the whole thing apart. Less than 1/2 hour start to finish.

Yeah, the stock bilstiens are very nice. I like them on my OR, however they're getting replaced with 5100's as soon as my stock tires need replacing.

He's right, I can actually pass school buses with ease. Don't know how I can do without the scoop. To answer your question, these trucks handle very well on the highway, even lifted. I usually do 70-80mph consistently on the highway with no issues. The JBL 6disc w/amp is not bad for factory sound. The 2011 system comes with an aux port for mp3 players that earlier models didn't have.('05-'08 ?)

 

My '09 4 cylinder runs very well at 85 all day long.

 

I have an 11 TRD Sport V6...I had to haul some ass up to Colorado and back through mountains and she never slowed down. 95 all the way and no struggle.
