    Interesting.

Any concern with power surges? I've got an iPad and I'd wager it wouldnt handle even slight fluctuations very well.

looks cool, but honestly, whats so great about the ipad? my brother bought one and its pretty much a giant ipod touch. typing on it sucks and it feels uncomfortable and always feels like its gonna slide of your lap... ill stick with my laptop

I've got one, and you're right - it's very much like a giant iPod touch, but it's not. Alas, we digress from the OP...make a thread in the OT area and I'll chat your ear off about it!

Who cares what people say. Do what you like. I personally think its really neat but I wouldn't do it myself. I'm too lazy to take it out, put it in whenever I get in or leave the truck, and I wouldn't dare leave it in my truck. My HU has been jacked before and it sucks as*

well no one cares about your opinion. you dont like it, dont do it to your truck. and who cares how it looks when the ipad isnt sitting there? thats like saying your truck looks horrible when your head unit isnt installed... dumbass

well thats not really the point of the install. as far as typing, its still way easier than on a double din head unit, much larger display, better capabilities than a normal gps or head unit. not supposed to be a laptop.

Kelson it looks sick, you better update this thread though.. I know youve finished the install.

Just wanted to bring this back up to see more progress. I'm intrigued to see what you come up with. I love the idea, and since you said you aren't close to finished, I don't feel so bad saying this: It looks good, except for the top. Above/behind the ipad looks unfinished (which I think you might not be finished). Once it looks more complete, I think it will be a sick idea.

I'm as anti-Apple as they come, but I broke down and got an iPad. An Android tablet doesn't have the gps capability of the iPad. I seached high and low and asked if there was a way to connect a gps module to the tablet. Everyone told me no, and I couldn't get a definitive yes from anywhere. The iPad will do exactly what I am looking for, therefore, it won over the Android. I have an android phone, and I will never give that up.

That looks pretty cool now, when your done it will look sick. Eff the haters. I'm a first gen guy so Donnies a little out of his elment, but is the arm rest storage compartment big enough for the ipad to fit? Somebody on here did a badass mod to theirs and made that shit bulletproof son! Just a thought - I'll see if i can find the thread. Either way, shits cool. Props.

Don't worry about what haters say.... I would love to have this set up. What are you going to do about the little space at the very top of the ipad and the dash? Hows the sound quality going to be? How about painting the space around the ipad black? Like this.

    OP,
I like the fact that your IPAD is up front and center. Not hating here, just posting an alternative. I wanted my IPAD in my truck as well but did not want to lose the original look. Here is what I did that secures it for use in the truck and is easy to remove. I plug it in to the audio system and charging dock just behind where it is mounted. I can stream music, play concerts, surf the internet, etc... of course I dont surf while driving, but my wife likes to be able to while we are on trips. Once the IPAD is jailbroken, simple backgrounding allows for surfing and streaming all at one time. Anyway, here is my link for the alternate way to do it. There are a couple other mods on this link as well, so scroll down for the pics of the IPAD mount http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/185248-sunday-mods.html

Once you glass behind the pad and finish up the final details it'll look sweet. I like the slide idea to. A customer of mine paid a fortune to do something similar in his Camaro SS. He had to relocate all of the controls but it came out sweet.
