get a good job and move out of the ghetto.

Buy a car with a transponder key.

Don't bypass it with an aftermarket alarm.

Don't sleep through someone backing a tow truck up to your house

Ditto on Island 808. If you don't have a transponder on your tacoma get a kill switch. Less than 100. and it is an electronic chip that you take out and clip on your keyring. The vehicle will not start without it. The only thing you cannot avoid is the vehicle being towed unless you block it in your driveway with another vehicle if you don't have a garage. Avoid the alarm, it is not worth it and bypasses the transponder. There are lots of products out there with GPS tracking ability that are much better and cheaper than Lojack. Check this out: http://www.zoombak.com/products/

Move to a better neighborhood, Park in the garage, Don't drive to the ghetto if you don't have to. Don't leave your vehicle for extended periods of time, If you have a garage but can't park in it...GET OFF YOUR ASS AND THROW ALL THAT JUNK AWAY AND MAKE ROOM FOR THE VEHICLE TO PARK IN THE GARAGE..THATS WHAT THE GARAGE IS FOR!

Park under lights in parking lots if you can.

Don't drive into shitty neighborhoods...oh wait already said that..but I will say it again. DON'T DRIVE TO SHITTY NEIGHBORHOODS.

Don't give them a reason to steal your vehicle.

my methy neighbors were stealing fuel from vehicles, 5 gal fuel tanks from garages and barns and small fire arms. My father in laws Tundra and my mother in laws Sienna both had locking gas flaps so they cut the rubber fill hoses.

Haven't seen anyone mention this yet but I use "the club" as a visual theft detterant. Then when I'm at home I park the truck in te garage. Like others have said, if someone really wants the truck, they'll get it either way.

The only thing "the club" is good for is clubbing people with it. It takes 5 seconds to get off, maybe even less. There is a Ford 350 round here that the guy has that on. Truly a laugh. Might as well leave the truck unlocked and the keys in the ignition. Nothing says steal me better then hey I got a club you can't take me, I'm so clueless I'm actually relying on this metal bar.

Ahhaah! That complicates matters. Could be cheaper to let them steal than to lock the tank. I live in Mid City NOLA and think someone stole my gas twice. Maybe I should sit up one night and sting the bastard. Posted this in the gas price thread, but appropriate here as well...

Oh yea, don't forget your car can not be stolen without a key or tow truck unless you have bypassed the security. Kill switches et al are waste of money.

Some people will still steal a factory radio (seems most companies gave up on making them vehicle specific) but really. Not a huge issue with new cars. Break ins happen to get stuff.. or even just look for stuff. But modern cars are not stolen except by trucks and those are probably mostly random grab and gos you can't really do anything about.

You do not need to bypass any security system or need a key in order to have your vehicle towed away. The kill switch is very effective in preventing vehicle theft on vehicles without a transponder (other than towing). The ignition can be mechanically defeated but the vehicle will not start without the kill switch activated. The club is a waste of money. Thieves just cut the steering wheel and pull it off.

The only problem is that if they find your vehicle, you will get it back. In other words they ride the shit out of it and let it sitting in its own piss and you have to take it back. The insurance will repair whats broken. Kind a like your girlfriend being banged by a few dudes.

Lojack! $700 installed for the life of the truck, but! you have to pay a fee to axcess it online, and don't tell everybody you have it, keep it your secret.
Your local Police LOVE Lojack! When they know where the stolden vehcile is, say at someones home inside the garage, they knock at the door and ask if they have that vehcile?, the person that lives there always say No! ha ha ha, then the fun begins!
Kids will rob motorcycles and atv's, bring it home, then the kids dad will pat him on the head and say "good job son"!
