Mudflap woes and feeler

Hey,

Im new the forum and new to owning a tacoma and I really dont like the muflaps that come on the new tacomas. Is there anyone selling shorter molded mudflaps for the tacomas, becauase I cant find any. I've seen that lots of people just trim them, but I dont really think looks all that great.

If a company like Weathertech, who already makes mudflaps for vehicles that dont come with them, was convinced to produce them for the tacomas would anyone here even buy them? Or am I the only one that doesnt like the trimmed solution or rubber ones?

If a company did make them how long would you want them to be?

Mine are gone as well, but I wouldn't mind a compact version if there was something available.

 

I'm not big on alot of the after-market flaps, and I don't know of any good ones, but if there were some that were more durable I suppose I would consider them. I can't decide if I like the look better with or with-out, so next time mine break I am going with none.

I cut my front by 3.5 inches and the rear ones by 3 inches. Used tin snips and 120 grit sandpaper. Looks OEM when you are standing up looking at em.

 

Took mine off when I put the lift in and the 33"s on.Thought that they would rub based on what I read on this forum.A mistake on my part,my tires would pick up rocks in the tread in the gravel and would then release the rocks at around 100kms/45ms.It beat the sh*t out of the bottoms of my doors and the rocker panels.I put the flaps back on and am pissed at myself for takeing them off and not putting them back on soon enough.Doesn't look as cool but for myself it is necessary.Doesn't rub either.

 

I like the trimmed look, just don't have faith in myself to not rush it and f-it up. OP doesn't like the look though.

 

More to the point.. does anyone have any experience with finding a rubber one that fits well. Plastic "mudflaps" are for sports cars.. But, though I talk like an ass hole most of the time.. I am no where near a big enough piece of shit to throw rock into windshields of people behind me if I can help it.

These hardish plastic things ain't the way to go.. what happened to old flappy mud flaps.

 

I like mud flaps in the sense of keeping rocks from flying up.. but these...are just a damn joke.

 

I did the mud flap mod on the fronts and think it's looks ok. Simple to do and no cost.

I did look around online to see what was available for aftermarket mud flaps but didn't like any that were specifically for the Tacoma.

I do like the ones by Rally Armor though don't know exactly how they'd look on a Tacoma. I believe they have universal ones.

Although I am still looking for a compact mudflap alternative, I had a local custom shop put 3M protective film on the rockers and flares behind the wheel wells. I didn't trust myself to not f**k it up

The work was not perfect, but they will make it so in the Spring when the weather warms up.

It may be a good way to go for protection, but obviously it won't stop debris from flying up for those behind you.

Might want to check out Powerflow Pro-fit mudflaps. I don't have them, but have seen pics. They are shorter, conform to the fender, and look good. Can't speak to the quality though since I don't have them.

 

I trimmed about 3" off my front mud flaps. I took a Compass (aka scribe) and scribed the factory curve on to them about 3" up. Then used some snips to trim. Then took some sandpaper and sanded the cuts smooth and round. It looks like they weren't trimmed.

 

That's what I did, but I went 4". Looks completely factory and only took about 30 minutes.
