Remember when Toyota put the 2.7L 4 cylinder in the fullsize (7/8ths) T100, and the biggest engine they offered was the 3.4 v6? Wonder why they just didn't offer a V8 back in 92 to start with.

Anyway I think for what most people actually use a fullsize truck for a 3.5L twin turbo would be sufficient.

Living in the city and having had a 2004 full size, I got parked in a few times. The tacoma gives me just enough room to get out of those situations that would park me in before. Beyond that? Ford's gotten better and toyota america is... well not .

Yeah well I might get flamed for this, but I'd recommend an auto anyway. The autos in the Tacos are pretty bombproof and have been around for a lot of years. The 6-speed manuals have had a few issues that Toyota (for whatever reason) just won't fix.

    Check out my sig...
This is the boat I was in....

2009 F150 XLT A/C - LOVED IT! The drive from Pittsburgh to San Diego was the best I've had. Cruise control @ 70 pulling about 6k and the motorcycle in the bed even through Missouri hills with a head wind. Had tons of room and all the comfort I needed, pup had the back seat all to herself. Got decent gas milage too.

That being said, I got to San Diego and realized that it was too big for going downtown or for the neighborhood my GF lived. Door dings, having to park BLOCKS away from where I needed to be, etc. So I traded the F150 in for an Acura TSX (if I had the offroad or platinum edition it never wouldve happened).

Now with the baby needed something bigger. Considered the F150 but it's just too big for city living - we also spend a lot of time in LA asian areas where all the parking spots are sub-compact! So I settled on the Taco since it meets all of my needs (that and I wanted a stick shift). However i wouldve considered the twin turbo if I knew it was coming out - dunno if it wouldve changed my mind but I mightve waited for a bit to test drive it at the very least. My experience: 6spd man taco: 14-16 mpg; 6spd auto F150: 13-15 mpg. Biggest difference is tank size/distance to fill-up.

Dont listen to the distractors - Ford has turned their company around and the fit and finish of the F150 is great. The only problem I had was trying to add an aftermarket gps headunit while still being able to use the sync system - just not gonna happen at least when I owned it.

X 2 on the auto.... I love a manual tranny just not the one they put in the Taco.

I drive a 2010 F150 SCAB, It has the Lariat trim level and the chrome package. I drove a Chevy for 12 years before that, same Chevy. My son has a Tacoma. The 2 don't compare. Tacoma is fun to drive, easier to park, etc. The F150 has a nice size bed @ 6.5ft to haul with, roomy, extremely smooth on the road, lots of bells and whistles. You have to pick based on what you need the truck to do. I like them both. I agree beware the new engine line as development always happens in the field once they are released and used for what a truck should be used for not running around a track somewhere.

i have a buddy who owns a used car lot and he looked up the loan value that a bank would give on my 09 off road with about 35k miles on it and it was just over 30k.. hell i dont even think I paid that much.. I couldnt belive it. Not sure what the f150 but i know resale on the taco is pretty darn good.

if resale is a factor, consider this.
I contacted my dealer that I buy all my vehicles from (peppers automotive, paris tn) and got a quote on trade in for my tacoma. 21-22k. Its an 07 w/ 48k miles on it. Ford cant touch that!

the resale may not be as good on the ford as the tacoma, but hell thats not gonna matter if the truck cant do the job. both are great trucks i have a small fleet of f150's and never had a problem with any just regular maintenance and my guys drive the piss outta these trucks. having said that my personal truck is a tacoma just i dont need a 1/2 ton and its a lot more fun and the wife can drive it if she needs to

Sadly, you're probably right. Most people who buy a full size truck never really push it's capacities. I actually want to drive one with the twin turbo, I'm curious to see how much snot it's really got.

i took 2 of my guys and went to a demo day in va beach and had the pleasure to drive one we took it 70 miles round trip and it moves the truck effortless and we hooked up the computer to see what the mpg was round trip it averaged 23.4 mpg. the mpg not being a big deal for me, i cant say enough about the power, the closest comparison is that someone stuck a diesel inside.

Because of perceived problems or because something in the tacoma makes it hard to reach the shifter or something?

You don't switch to automatic because the shifter is stiff or something..
You switch to a brand you actually like. Unless you got a sex change somewhere in between.

Ford= NEVER AGAIN... American trucks lose all their value after 1 year of ownership..Get the Tacoma enjoy it drive it and sell it for what you nearly paid for it years later.

Nothing you can do about the windshield. Traction control can be turned off, at least in the Tacoma.

So the only substantial reason to switch from the Frontier is paint? Not sure if the Tacoma's or F150's paint is that much better.

You seen the torture tests on the ecoboos engine... they look amazing. 365HP and 420lbs of TQ at 1700 RPM... sheesh... I test drove the 3.7 V6 and the 5.0 V8... V6 was more peppy initially but the V8 had more power but took longer to ramp up. the v6 handled the full size pretty well but I could tell it would have some trouble on the longer/steeper uphills. The cockpit was amazing, the dashboard and LCD display was very very nice and usefull. Blue and white leds made it look very "now".... very impressive truck... .then I bought a 2011 Tacoma.

LOL at the conclusion of this text.

For the OP, Ford has way more options you can get with higher trim packages that you will get with the full equip tacoma. Think about that.
