2011 taco vs. 2011 f-150

what way to go? price being the deciding point so far dose anyone else have any in put ??

 

Dont know if you want to risk being the guinea pig for the new engine line up. I wouldnt want a brand new engine especially like the ecoboost without being properly proven.

The f150 and tacomas are in different classes. If you want a truck for work and towing then go for the 150. If you want a truck more for fun and light duty chores and offroading then get the taco.

Cant go wrong but your asking the wrong people. I dont know what youre into but the boys over here are into more go than show. The f150 bros are into the bling factor more than functionality. ymmv

 

Why are you comparing the 2? F-150 is more inline with the Tundra. What sort of answer do you think you'll get on a Tacoma Forum? Put your flame suit on.....

The new F150 isn't a bad truck. Like someone else said, I don't know how much faith I'd have in their smaller motors... A twin turbo 3.5L in a full size truck just doesn't seem like a good fit, and I'd guess the 3.7L would be a dog. The 2 V8 motors they offer seem sound and at home in a full-size truck. The 5.0 has been around for a long time, although I'm sure it's a new animal now days. If you need a full size for capacity, the F150 is the better choice (although, personally, I'd give Chevy a good, hard look as well).

The Tacoma is a great mid-sized truck with fairly high capacities for it's size. The 4.0L is a good motor and has a track record so you at least know what to expect from it. Obviously, if you ask a Tacoma site, you're going to get a lot of pro-tacoma people. Read the forums and see what people say, you'll get the good, bad and the ugly in a few minutes.

heres the deal right now i run a 09 frontier like the truck but fit and finish is shitty i have more stone chips in my windshield then i care to discuss paint is terrible i hate traction control enoughwith that rant but im looking at the new f-150 and the tacoma just cant find a winner. chevys are junk iv seenmy buddies in the shop more than he drives it (front diff exploided, trasvercase broke in half) idk the dealership here in newhartford dosnt like to stock manual trannies in the taco's idk

 

Comparing apples and oranges. I wouldn't use price as the factor I'd determine what you're doing with the truck. Do you need a fullsize? Which do you like better? Really have to decide what you need out of the truck.

I'd be perfectly fine with the new motor, I'd pick one up with the 5.0 if I were getting one. As far as the 3.7L being a dog, I'm sure it does decent. It's not supposed to be fast. Think it has more power than the other full size V6 offerings. Perfectly fine for a work truck. Not to mention it's putting out more power than V8's were several years ago. Would be nice if they offered the 6.2 in more trim levels I'd buy an FX4 with the 6.2. Believe it only comes in the Platinum and Raptor.

 

What are you going to use it for?

 

Do you like the size of your frontier? if so then get a Tacoma. If you want more room get a ford but i prefer a Tundra

 

I test drove a '11 F-150 with a 5.0 yesterday. They are very nice trucks with plenty of power and good fuel mileage. I reset the mpg readout before the test drive and it showed I was averaging 18mpg where my tacoma only gets 15-16 driving it in the same conditions. Loaded xlt packages(power heated mirrors, power heated sliding rear window, LCD display in dash, etc.) like I drove list for around $39K but I have gotten several price quotes from local dealers in $31-32K range. Considering thats what I paid for my double cab long bed sport I'm definately thinking about trading up.

One is big and ugly and one is lean and good looking.

 

Ive driven almost every model of the 2010 and 2011 f150 s they are great trucks......quite honestly and i may get flamed for it fords are a better deal considering what you get for you money (all the gadgets, sheetmetal, and power). However considering this i chose and stand by tacomas for durability and ruggedness......

i will always pick tacomas....

Fords are a better deal because mid-size pickups haven't made any economic sense for about 5 years now and are making less every day with their dated, less economical engines and same-price-as-a-full-size stickers.

When they were being designed, 2001 to 2005ish, gas was cheap and SUV-rama was in full swing. Not so much anymore.

That said, I wouldn't have any other truck. It's 100% perfect for my needs...which just means my needs are weird.

I'd have no problem with an EcoBoost powered truck. Turbos are making a comeback in a big way for both small cars and big trucks.

To me, it boils down to your budget and what you want. How big of a truck do you want or need?

 

I worked with a guy that bought a brand new F150 in 2008. The only thing he ever hauled in it was some furniture when his sister asked him to help her move. I hauled way more stuff in my 94 4x4 pickup. He even tried to tell me his truck would out perform mine offroad. I just laughed.
