Have someone listen for it with a stethoscope while you're driving at speeds that the noise is most prevalent. This would be a quick and easy way to diagnose where its coming from. You could also use a piece of PVC if you don't have or want to purchase a stethoscope.

Better yet, I would have someone drive the truck for me while I checked for myself. What can I say, I usually trust my self a little more than others.;)

Wow, I must be really lucky I'm on my third new Tacoma and the only problems I have ever had on any of them was a leaking valve cover gasket that took about 20 minutes to fix and a noise issue caused by the weather stripping above the windshield on my 2005 Tacoma, about a 5 minute fix.

You can use round rubber strips that are used to repair screen doors to fix that problem, you just push it in the hollow area in the top weather stripping. You cannot see it and it will take care of the wind noise for good.

Didn't have it checked out yet, hopefully withing the next few weeks. I was hoping to get some feedbacks first that way I'll know how to approach the tech with it.

    6) Radio shuts off randomly, buttons go out now and then, and the lights on it go out sometimes. Probably a bad head unit but I haven't had time to stop by the dealer.

    6) I bought mine used awhile back and really the only issue I am having is the loud slapping/clanking noise coming from the back of the truck, whenever I go over any bumps. It sounds like something is loose, but unable to find anything. I think this may have something to do with the TSB for the leaf spring silencer pads. Anyone have any other suggestions on what this might be?
The brakes also seem a little soft, so I am thinking of upgrading the rotors and pads. Other than that, I love my truck!!!

Your vibes under acceleration are caused by the design of the split driveshaft. Same design on the Ford S.D. and they vibrate just like the Tacos. Normal.
The noise you are experiencing during initial first start is the ABS doing a self test. Normal.
Engine tick is caused by the bucket design of the valve train. Very robust design but can be noisy. Similar noise to the solid lifters of the old days. Normal.
I find the surging is more than likely due to the A/C compressor engaging, which kicks up the idle 100-150 rpm's. Even if you dont have the A/C button engaged the climate control will engage the compressor at times especially in the 2009 models such as mine.
The clunking in the 4WD system...I have it to but I dont think its an issue although I dont know what is causing it.
    Hope this helps.

I seem to be having a very simmilar problem with mine. Granted i do have 23K miles on mine but i don't think that a tranny issue should arise with millage like that. Mine is lurchy from 1/2, 2/3 and a lil 4/5, also when at any speed over 30 MPH when the foot is taken off the accelerator the tranny has a delay when downshifting. A friend of mine told me that the tranny is slipping. Could that be true? :pout: What are your oppinions?

    6. Loud engine ticking noise which seems to be the inherent audio characteristic of these trucks, will change to full synthetic at first oil change, more for peace of mind.

Slight annoying vibration that emanates from under the glove compartment. Saw a few posts on this and will fix this weekend.

Overall, love the truck and am very pleased!! 2200 miles on it already.

    6) dash occasionally rattles on driver and passenger corners, something (screw?) is rolling around inside the dash area (vicinity of heater controls/ below gauge cluster to the right of steering wheel).

Edit: discovered source of "screw" noise- a self tapping screw was loose in the climate control duct that exits on the back of the console and likely entered through those vent slots (sound reverberated to the dash vent). Told by the tech that this is a very common problem- why isn't there a screen over that opening? Future mod for my truck if I can figure out how they took that apart.

    [IMG] Defects or Issues?
I have been reading that there are a number of people that are having issues with their BRAND NEW Tacomas! I am not one of them (aside from my complaints about MPG on a 4 cyl), but I think we need to get some accurate numbers to go to Toyota with.

PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS POLL/THREAD WITH THE FOLLOWING:

    1) Year 2006
    2) Engine V6
    3) Drive Line 4WD, Traction Control
    4) Body Configuration DoubleCab and Longbed
    5) Suspension TRD
    6) truck accelerates when coming to a stop - back wheels spin alot of complaints at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/

May this bring us some good numbers! ;)
