I have a 07 access cab v6 automatic 4x4 and have not experienced this problem at all with about 8k miles on it. However, I changed the tires from what came on the truck orginally to Yokohoma 265 16 70 the first week I had the truck. Wheels were also changed to a FJ series bought from Toyota.
From what I understand, the vibration is from the driveshaft, but I have not heard of any complaints at the Toyota dealership where I work at. I have seen a few ball joint replacements on the older tacoma's and Tundra's.
The Toyota dealer that I work at has been only open since April, so therefore, its not fair to say this problem doesnt exist. Our customer base is still new and we havent had a large clientel of older toyota trucks. Also, the area does not have a large number of older trucks. Previous to our opening, the nearest Toyota dealership was over 50 mlles away, so Toyota trucks were kinda few and far between here.
Other conditions that could cause but not limited to this vibration problem are mud caked on the inside of the wheels, bad tires, excessive end play, improper balance, defective machining, lack of lube on the sliders, on the driveshaft, engine/trans mounts.
