I noticed it the other day in the rain, I took off from a stop and one tire was spinning. I have owned the truck for over a year and I have never had that happened until now. Apparently Toyota uses clutch packs on there LSD's and I guess mine is worn out at 18k miles. Cant say that I am very happy about it.

Under normal driving conditions (2wd) while on a 700 mile round trip I had my 4x4 malfunction light come on. I referenced the manual and performed the documented procedures to try and remedy however it didn't resolve the problem. It appears as though the problem is with the 4wd Lo setting. 4wd Lo doesn't appear to be functioning...when I engage 4wd Lo the 4x4 warning buzzer goes off and it's my opinion that the 4wd Lo never actually operates. 4x4 Hi appears to work fine.
I am taking it to my local dealer tomorrow for service.

Well I am a true "noob". The flashing red light that I "assumed" was an indicator for a 4x4 malfunction was actually the indicator light for the RR Diff Lock....I bet my service department got a kick out of calling me back to tell me that. When I referenced it in the the owners manual I felt like a real jack @ss thats why it pays to not skim over the things you think you know. At any rate I wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy.....tested out the 4x4 lo and engaged the locker...all work as described though I will probably never need to use either. Just feels better knowing that things work correctly.
So to verify I actually have not experienced any problems with my Tacoma aside from a broken windshield, due to a rock chip, 3 days after purchase. My dealer paid in full to have replaced for me since it was such a freak happening.

Paint chip on passenger side A piller. I'll fill it in this weekend. Other than that, nothing in 6000 miles. No tick, no shudder, no wind noise.

    6) 8000 miles - paint chips very easily, suspension bottoms out with light loads (still trying to get the TSB done)

Other than that I am quite happy with the truck. It gets decent mileage, is comfortable on long trips and has plenty of power and room for my family.

Low miles yet but flawless except for wind noise. I just re-did the w/s myself , beats having to leave it at the dealer for a day and finding a ride.

When i go over large bumbs or constant ruts in 1st gear my rpms seem to go up and down with the truck, still trying to figure out if its just my foot moving on the accelerator pedal, or if the truck is doing just what i say!

    6) My problems all seem related to the clutch and tranny:
    • High revs when clutching to shift gears.
    • Gears 'clip' when shifting from 1-2, grind isn't the right word, but it's definitely not a smooth shift.
    • When in neutral, if I go over any bumps I get a very loud rattling from the rear of the truck. If it's in gear it doesn't rattle.

    6) There was a paint defect the day I picked the truck up. A strip on the passenger side access door was not painted. There was some paint but not complete coverage. Body shop took it in within the week and fixed it. Looks fine now. They even debadged the truck when I told them I was planning to do so. They said they don't see paint defects to frequently, has anyone else had this problem?

Other than that love the truck.

wow i cant believe howmany ppl dont like their paint jobs, i had a 2004 f-150 newer model, and now that was terrible paint, my vehicles get scraped by branches on a daily, and where the Ford woulda been left with gouges right through the primer, the tacoma is only gettin scrathed down to the primer! I am actually quite pleased with the paint quality!
