rpm's on a manual?

Hey,
Just a quick question..Yesterday when My 09' SR5 was getting the TSB done, they gave me a loaner that only turned 2500rpm's at 80 miles an hour. It was an automatic.
My Taco runs at 2900rpm's at 80 mph in 6th gear...What gives? Both are 4wd. Both v6's..
Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

 

So, what's the question? One is manual. One is an auto. Obviously the gear ratios are not the same.

 

^^^^hmmm, yea but that sucks. I would love to run at 2500 while doing 80, but I can only run about 73 and be at 2500. Doing 80, I can see the gas needle falling, lol Running 32's doesn't help.

 

Yep, it sucks for gas mileage. Especially driving on the interstate on long trips when you're trying to make good time. Thanks toyota for making a manual transmission that gets worse gas mileage than an automatic. The difference between 5th & 6th is very minimal.

Oh well I still love my manual though..especially offroading. 1st gear in 4LO climbing and descending hills is awesome! No Brakes, No Gas, Just crawling at idle.

 

Unless you're quoting gps numbers from your car with 32's or recalibrated the speedo, you don't know how fast you're really going.
I agree, though, the 6sp ratios are stupid.

Thanks. Not really a question, but cmon...2900 in 6th? And I agree, I will take the crappy gas mileage, because manual is THE way to go..Much more control..

 

Thats the way the taco's have been. I wasn't much for getting an automatic when I first bought this truck, but I've come to love it.... it shifts when I would normally want it to anyways.

 

Yea, I'm most glad I have it when wheeling and heading down a pass, just drop down a gear, dont have to ride the breaks
