Has anyone bought their Taco because of price and would have liked a different color?

I went to the Dealership in Early 2010 and wanted a TRD off Road 4x4 DC. They had one their and they told me it was a 2008 and only had 28 miles! Well, it was a nice color...Rad Red. But it wasn't my first color. Most of my previous vehicles were black.

The car came on the lot in 2008 and someone came in and made an offer. the sales person who wrote the offer was waiting for the purchaser to bring in the deposit $$, so the salesman put the contract in the back of his desk and hid the truck in the back of the lot so no other salesman could sale it. within the next week the salesman was fired and the truck remained hidden in the back lot...

When someone finally realized truck was there and put it in the lot i walked on the lot and they sold it to me for $6k under sticker.

Was wanting opinions on some Jet Black paint on the top or stripes or...?

I bought mine new in '07, it was the last week of '07 and it was the last one they had on the lot. It had all the options I wanted except the color. It's superwhite which I'm fine with, but it wasn't my first choice. 3 years in, it doesn't bother me a bit!

Unless it's an X-runner, I wouldn't go for strips... they don't belong on a truck in my opinion.

I guess I operated under the mindset of "I know what I want, I'll wait until I find that at a price I like". I had compromised enough on cars in the past, so I'm no help to you there.

Now, as far as something different to break up the red...some people have done a black vinyl roof wrap that didn't look half bad. Don't know how it would look on Rad Red though.

What a great question. Interesting to see how many compromised on such a large purchase, and why, especially buying new where choices can be had if one wants to wait..

I actually looked at used black 08 Sport but it was beat and an 11 black Sport. But the fender flares didn't match the gloss of the paint and the sticker had $300 TRD Mats $300 Tint and $599 worth of mop and glow on the Monroney Sticker...(not an addendum dealers put on. I decided I did not want to pay the dealer $7000 on the spot THEN drop $5k of it at the curb on the way out on paper.......I really wanted to go key to key with my trade so I began to look at looked at the used tacos they had.

Now I am not OCD about cleaning my trucks (or cars or bike) I detail (or have detailed) once a year and maybe hand wash it once every couple months wash after wards and use the car wash on occasion. I do use Zaino 3 step system because it lasts a year. I don't like the "I just came from the dealer with my new truck (or bike) " look. A truck or bike should look somewhat used not like it was just driven in a parade or never used. IMO.

My second and more reasonable choice was silver. I off roaded in a silver Taco in the 90s and it always looked clean despite the Arizona pinstripping, and hides small imperfections and dings even in the never ceasing dust of Southern Nevada. Hose it off and go.

I found a spotless 08 Rugged trail with 24K miles and bought it fopr $20,500 which was $500 above the ACV on my 2010 Honda Accord Coupe so I threw the dealer $500 and drove out with the title on the way.

I think Silver is boring on anything but a truck. Looks more more rugged with flat black accents. Would love the get a black stock grill instead of the chrome and the original black TRD wheels ..meh... but I just cannot get myselt to replace a perfect part with another simply for aesthetic reasons.Never could. It is not in my DNA to blow good money to replace perfectly good parts with shinier or different looking ones. I do the best with what the vehicle gives me and I try to choose well.

So silver it is.....I don't think I will ever buy another black vehicle or Red both are close in the OCD swirl factor. Can't see jack on silver except white bird shyte.

I went in to order a pyrite mica DC TRD sport short bed prerunner with side steps in Feb. of '09. When I was talking to the salesman he told me they had a demo truck on the lot that I might be interested in. So we went out and looked. In the back of my mind I was thinking there is no way Im goin to buy a demo truck and give up what I really wanted. But As soon as he shows me the truck it was hard to pass up. Its a prerunner which is what a wanted because I already have a 4x4. But the truck he showed me is what I have now an '09 silverstreak DC with the X-sp package. Which is pretty cool for a street truck. 20" wheels, Borla exhaust and air filter, side steps, and carbon fiber dash trim. Keep in mind its a demo truck and it had 5k miles on it. The original sticker price was 30k but since it was a demo it was marked down to $21,500. It still came with the factory warrenty which was extended to 35k miles since it already had 5k on it and I talked them into adding a bed extendor! since it was a short bed.

So its not what I went it for but I think I got a good deal.:D

I didn't want black, didn't want white, saw the Speedway Blue and although I wasn't absolutely sure it's what I wanted - took a shot and it has grown on me, I seriously like it. Would I consider a different color - yes probably the Magnetic Gray Metallic but if it weren't available at time of purchase I would go SWB again.

All of the colors are like that with color matched flares.

Black was my first choice and I got it. Didn't have what I wanted on the lot so I waited a couple weeks for the one I wanted to come from the distribution facility.

I think you got a GREAT deal...

Black is a seductive color in a showroom that quickly reveals it's flaws after a week...LOL

I wanted black or one of the reds, but when I got to the dealer in Nov. of 06. Mine was the only DBL CAB LB on the lot and the last 06. It is silver which is probably my second least favorite color as everyone in my family has a silver car. Its not that I dont liek the color its the fact that we have 6 Silver cars/trucks in my direct family. Its kind of grown on me, but I would still rather have Black or Red.

I bought the first Taco that I test drove. Silver. I wanted the magnetic grey, but Silver was my second choice. Knowing what I know now, I would've waited for a TRD sport instead of the SR5 that I got, but 5-10 years from now when I get my next new Taco, I'll get the TRD :)
