Alright, so I can't take it anymore... I was planning on leaving my truck unmolested. However, I look on here often and see all of these nice trucks. It's time to get off my ass and do something. I don't want to go too crazy. Probably just a conservative lift and some wheels and tires. As far as the lift goes, I would like to maintain some sort of factory ride (not going to take it off road anytime soon), accommodate 285's, and something relatively easy to install myself. I'm looking at a budget of $2000- $2500 for both the lift and wheel/tires. Any suggestions would be much appreciated for my prospective "small penis" truck, as my friend calls it.[IMG]

bilstien 5100s and new coil springs if your interested then get a new leaf pack for the rear like some dakars from wheelers then use the rest of your money on some nice rims and badass 33x12.5 tires of your choice. problem solved with money left over for other cool stuff.

How much would you estimate all of this to cost? Is the lift easy to install?

bilstiens are cake to install or you can take the front strut assembly to a local shop and have them swap the shops for you if your uncomfortable using spring compressors, you can get all 4 shocks for a decent price.. io got mine from downsouth motorsports for less than 400 and you can get an AAL for the rear but youll have a better ride quality if you get a whole new leaf pack roughly 4 to 500 for a new pack and like 80 for an aal. if your gunna haul alot of heavy stuff id go with an AAL cause a replacement pack would be softer and not able to handle a heavy load as well etc just do some research and you can see the process for lifting the front and rear there are plenty of write ups on all that here

Thanks for the help man. Are the leaf springs easy to swap out? I like the idea of having a softer ride, as I don't haul anything heavy.

just a tip, 285's kill gas mileage, you could get 265/75/16's and still have like a 32 inch tire without destroying your acceleration and mpg, the 265's will also give like an inch more height than stock 245/70/16's...just my .02 cents, the 5100's and new coils is a good way to lift like they said

not particularly, youll need a good jack and jack stands and stuff there is a write up in here somewhere about that as well and since your truck is fairly new it should be pretty easy cause you shouldnt have any seized bolts or anything but i dont think youll have a problem if your handy with a wrench. if not theres no harm asking for help, its better than paying for a shop to do something like this

and to install the lift with 5100's and coils you need a spring compressor, something i didnt have so i had my 5100's put on and adjusted at a garage

you can rent spring compressors from autozone for free i would check out your auto parts stores if you wanna go that route but coil compressors are a pain in the ass and potentially dangerous so if nyour not comfortable go to a garage for them to swap the shocks out

I have a question that may benifit me and the OP as well. What is the up side of replacing the coils? I have a 6mth old 2010 TRD Sport and will be installing billies to level after the rear leaf TSB and stop the rub on my new Duratracs. It's not like the tension is out of my coils.

stock coils arent bad but eventally will sag, also stock coils are made just to be as good as... stock, if you get an aftermarket coil you can get stiffer springs if you want but if you get the one recommended for your truck it just improves ride quality. i ordered a set of eibach coils from toytec cause my stock coils are sagging really bad

Thanks for the advise. The mpg IS a huge consideration, as I am only getting 16-18 as it is. Do the shocks themselves determine the height of the lift? Or do they just supplement the new spring? I see the spacer lift is probably the cheapest and easiest route, but I don't want it to ride like shit. As far as off-roading, prob not anytime soon.

dont even bother with a spacer, they are cheap for a reason. get the bilstien 5100s and you wont regret it and the spring wont effect the ride height unless you get one that specifically does. i had a spacer lift cause i was broke and i needed an extra bit of lift to stop the rubbing issues i had and i regret it. it was hard as hell to install too and it rode like crap

Just for the sake of argument... Don't all 05+ TRD packaged trucks come with 265/70/R16 or else 265/70/R17 stock? I believe they do...

For some reason, I was thinking the same thing. I guess that's why I was thinking 285's would be a little beefier. But all the same, if the 285's are going to kill my gas mileage, I guess I may have to stick with stock size.

    265/75's will add 1/2" in height over the 265/70's what's a 1/2" worth :D

It will not DESTROY your mileage... Marginal loss. For me anyway, the benefits are worth the loss of like 1 mpg
