Leveling after TSB

Got my rear leaf TSB done what would be the best spacers to put in front to level the truck out.

 

I put 5100s.. worked out nice

 

No need to level it.... atleast I don't think you need to.

Put 200lbs in the bed for a month (for instance) and the springs will settle to a nice rake (IMO).

yea i was looking at the 5100s but i just want to raise the front about an 1 or 2 in and dont want to spend the money for the 5100s unless i can find a good deal.

 

They are only $180 from DownSouthMotorsports. How much was the spacer kit you are looking at?

 

Found one kit for 70 also i am getting 275/55/20 tires and they are going to barely fit up front with stock hight

 

Top plate or coil spacer? Both have different disadvantages.

Those put a lot of stress on the ball joints, and also can make your front bump stops useless. You'll bottom out the shock before you hit the bump stops.

It's your choice but I just wanted to make you aware of the risks.

 

Ouch.... Do some research. Top plate spacers aren't the best choice.

 

what all does it involve putting those 5100s on

 

They are new shocks that preload the stock springs. So you have to take out the old shocks, etc. Plenty of threads on here to help you.

I installed these Eibach springs on my stock billies. I have pics in my gallery.

 

The TSB raised the back about 1 inch

so went with the .85 setting. sometimes the 1.75 looks nose high

 

do it once and do it right. Eibach with 5100's on the front. TSB on the rear. Level now. Adding 5100 on the rear later on.

 

TSB (fully settled) and 5100s @ 2.5

although- i had a snowmobile in the bed last week (~500 lbs) and the front was nose high. if you are carrying loads in the bed frequently I would go 1.75....

 

I am going against the grain and say OME 884's with either stock TRD shocks or get a OME shock or the 5100 at zero. I would say for the shocks on those 884's, 5100's should give nice plush ride at the zero setting. OME will be firmer IIRC. Stock TRD's will suffice till they go and replace at that point with either two.

Here is the logic. The 5100's give a nice ride at zero. Start to preload that shock and the travel is reduced. Thus creating a stiffer ride. (shock does not have as much room to absorb the blow) The more you crank it up, the stiffer it comes. Whether or not this stiffness is a dealbreaker is for you to decide. Now with the 884's you get somewhere around 2" of lift. No preload. It is a 590# pound shock which is in no way stiff. Compared to eibach's at 650#. If you are not going to bang your truck around hard, why have a shock/coil designed to absorb those kind of blows you will never give it? Back on topic, the 884's are not that much stiffer that the stock TRD's yet give you the lift you need to level you truck out IMO.

This is all from the research I have done on this site on others. Once it is time for new shocks on my 2009 ,the 884 way is the way I am going. Again, the 5100's get great marks on this site for good reason. Not a bad shock. Just not the shock I need for my application.

Nice explanation, thanks. I pretty much fit right into your rational. My 2011 TRD DC has a front rake and no TSB. Thought this would work out OK, but found the going over the same rough roads as I did with my 2004 TRD DC at the same speeds that the 2011 is scraping in the front. So I'm just looking to level things out.
