Basically your just sandwiching the aluminum between the top layer plastic and backing layer rubber

Materials are:

Black plastic License Plate (The kind the dealers put on the cars on the lot) But not a super thin one, a good quality one that's not very flimsy but kinda soft and easy to cut with exacto knife

Thin sheet aluminum from Lowes SteelWorks (.025 Thickness)

Backing is 1/8" Thin black sheet rubber

I printed out the Toyota Trucks logo from the internet and made a template and traced that onto the plastic

Plastics/rubber were cut out with Medium exacto knife---Thin Aluminum was cut out with sharp scissors

All the layers were lightly sanded cleaned with rubbing alcohol and bonded using DAP contact cement with brush applicator

Plastic was painted with black Plasti-Dip 3 Coats

Used steel weld epoxy to bond bolts to aluminum for mounting

I like it, alot. Only gotta criticize one thing, it seems that you need to be almost perfect cutting along the holes of the mesh. One side is jagged, while the other side is smooth.

Hell I could throw this together in like 10 minutes at my work, love it!

Brian' actually you wont see that when the emblem is finished

I didn't even epoxy anything yet,Once that solid back plastic center piece is totally lined up you wont be able to notice it

It's the solid center piece that makes it so the edges are clean against the Aluminum not the mesh...

Thanks Glad U Liked it....

Ok I had to leave out the mesh piece cause no matter what plastic glue or epoxy I used, it just wouldn't bond good enough

So top layer plastic
Middle layer aluminum
Backing layer is rubber

All 3 layers were bonded using DAP contact cement with the brush applicator

Just gonna do one more coat of epoxy on the studs just to be safe. Then I'll get the pics up of it on the truck

Used Metal epoxy to bond bolts to aluminum

Also you can see the rubber I used for the backing in this photo,Cut out circles to expose aluminum

Some rubber, plastic, and metal washers to attach the emblem

So about the plastic craft mesh that didn't work for this project...

I'm in Ace hardware the other day checking out their cool little automotive section. I come across a muffler patch kit for holes

Well guess what's in the kit? A piece of flat metal mesh the size of my DIY emblem and it's the same exact pattern mesh of the Grillcraft scaled down to small size

So looks like I'm gonna make another one

My wife's like,Will I ever get my craft table back lol

Will mount it tomorrow and take pics of it on the truck
