My dealer also told me that since i had synthetic on my 4.0, that I could go 10K. I told them to change it anyway (especially since I have the 2 yr free oil change plan)

Split the difference and go 7500. I would be more concerned of the filter going 10k than the oil.

then what is up with Amsoil 15,000 oil change intervals? I have the catalog right in front of me. I am a "preferred member" but I still don't go the 15K.

my wife's Si has a system that dictates intervals, but the statement above, to me, seems like you are saying that your truck does too, unless i'm interpreting this wrong.

if you have any concerns about oil change intervals, get an oil change analysis. it's like 25 bucks and can give you an idea of how far you can go with the particular type of oil you test.

i don't know what a preferred member is, lol, but i can tell you that there are used oil analyses that come back and push users to go 18-20k miles sometimes. it just depends on so many things, hence the idea of analysis being so strong.

My wife's 2011 Highlander has 5k oil change intervals. While I am ok with this. The issue I am having is that I can't find this oil at the local stores. Is this a new grade or something that I need to buy at Sams? It has to be Castrol and no other brand.

Now, on my 07 Taco DC 4x4 I have currently full synthetic and will change it at 10k. I am currently at 8k miles. I plan to send a sample for analysis and will share my results here.

how many miles on his rig? My 07 barely has 34k. Perhaps I should be doing once a year oil changes since I do not log a lot of miles...

Strange...I've just took my tacoma in today for its 1st oil change (5k miles) and the rep checked my vehicle to see if it takes conventional oil or synthetic..he verify on the computer and told me that it only takes the conventional oil...got an oil change and all the other inspection done today..you might want to check another dealership or have them verify for you...

again, this is not that uncommon among those who get their oil analyzed. i wouldn't say it is common, but it definitely happens. it depends entirely on driving habits, the oil, your environment, the filter and what the oil analysis says. also what sort of engine it is, as direct injected engines, for instance, tend to need changes at a shorter interval...same thing (typically) with forced induction engines.
