Where does toyota hide the 7 prong to 4 pin Towing adapter?

I was 99.99 percent sure my truck was supposed to come with the adapter - in fact I remember it saying it on the sticker. Now I went to go tow a boat trailer yesterday and I looked for it and couldn't find it, where are they hidden for the first time?

 

Ditto- I'd look at your sticker again and ask the dealer about it. I bought one right after I bought my truck with my hitch and everything.

I thought you just got the 7prong and no adapter?? Not too sure, I know there is some wiring harness in my glove box though...

 

It was one of Toyota's accessories like the side step bars... . You can make your own very easily or just go and buy one they are only about $10.

 

That harness is for an electronic progressive brake controller. About a 150 dollar part to help with stopping power for larger more complex trailers.

Yeah....Autozone has all sorts of adapaters. I think I paid about 10 or 12 bucks for a combined 7 to 4 and 7 to 6 adapter

 

on the sticker it says 7 pin connector with converter (i thought the converter was to convert to a 4 pin) what converter are they speaking of?

 

I thought the same but the one included is the one for the brake controller if you were to add one and it's wired for plug and go with the towing package. The converter your thinking of is an accessory for about $12 as I remember.

 

I had to buy an adapter for my 08'. $7 is all and I keep it in one of the bed storage boxes.

 

ahhh, thanks for the clarification, just thought I might have been missing something I was supposed to have included, but that clears it up, I know it isn't expensive, but I thought It was included.

 

The converter is to convert your truck wiring (separate turn signals and brake lights) to trailer wiring (incorporated turn/brake lights). It is in the fuse box in the engine bay, additional relay, fuse, etc. Yup, you have to go buy to 7-pin to 4-pinb adapter yourself.

 

Usually stuffed in behind the kick panel.

 

When picking up my truck (new), they (Dealer) did not place this adapter in the truck, and I argue them that the converter was not included even when on the window sticker detail mentioned it, they even went to the service department to "identify" what was that. Finally I got a smal white box with the converter inside.

If you do not have it (by now) and a long time has come since your vehicle delivery, you will then need to purchase one from them of cheaper from anyone else, it is like less than $10.00USD.

No adapter here either! I asked and got clarification from my dealer that there is no adapter that comes with the truck.

Not true. As everybody else has said what you get with the towing package is the brake controller converter. I think you were just able to talk the dealer into giving you the 7-to-4 pin adapter.

 

I did also receive the Brake controller connector (it does not convert anything to anything else) it does create a connection between your vehicle and your brake controller. And if adapter and converter are not almost equal in functionability then they gave me free (about $7.00USD) this "adapter *7-to-4 pin*".

 

The dealer hid my 7-pin adapter at the local hardware store...I had to pay $19 to get it back.
The trailer brake adapter was in the glove box.

 

I bought an 09 Tacoma on Friday and thought the same thing that the converter was the 7-pin to 4-pin adapter. I called the sales guy and asked and he was going to check in to it for me. Still waiting to hear back from him

 

Yeah its in their parts dept. Maybe he'll get you one for free, some include it, others don't. I've batted .500 in this. Good luck!

 

I got an 7 to 4 adapter with my truck - I thought it somewhat strange, but it was in the truck when I bought it (along with the brake controller harness).
