OK...finally gonna buy the 5100's...question?

I have the TSB rear...I'm gonna go with 5100's front @ 85...

I don't do off-roading...I only want the front billy's to level the truck and give it a factory profile...

any argument to installing the rear 5100's?

Same here...and I will be getting rears as well. Better shocks than stock.

 

I have 5100's in back with the TSB. Gives a little firmer ride than stock, but I like it. Lets see some pictures when you get it finished.

I have the same set-up. TSB rear and 5100s @ .85 up front.

the TSB should of gave you the better shocks all around, being your a SR5.

I installed the 5100s up front because they provide the adjustable lift.

Love this set up. gave about 1 inch lift all around.

The back end is already so light, the back shocks are fine.

When the back ones wear out, then i might up grade to the 5100

but for now, the TSB rear and 5100s up front are perfect.

 

It certantly isn't a must that you purchase and install the rear Billies but keep in mind that the dampening effect is different from the stock shocks.

2010 sr5 didn't include new shocks as part of the TSB

and I've seen your set up...it was partly reason for my decision.

Did not know the shocks weren't included. But i think you already have the ones they put on mine.

I have had no problems with the regular shocks.

I figured with the beefier springs, i didnt want to add stiffer shocks also.

may-be if you carried heavy loads alot, but i dont.

 

No shocks for '09 and later. Refer to the TSB.

 

Mine is a 09, i got new shocks iaw the TSB which was the 2008 at the time.

 

I put 5100s on the rear about a year after the tsb was done. Very easy to do. You dont need to remove wheels or jack it up. I just crawled under and swapped them out. I immediately noticed an improvement in ride quality. Then I put the front ones in at .85 and my truck is perfectly level. Yes, get the rears too. TSB and 4 5100s is the best thing I've done for my truck. Those 5100s are beefier than stock and eat up bumpy roads much better. They match VERY well with the TSB springs. Rides more like a full size truck now I think.

Yep, just remove the bolts and work the old ones out. As far as the new ones, I installed the top first, then benchpressed the shock to compress it enough for the bottom to fit in. The shocks want to fully extend slowly on their own. I'd have a little lube handy to get the bottom of the shock to fit in. It's pretty snug with the new bushing on there. Just lube it and tap it in. If I remeber right the top bolt uses a hex wrench. Took me about 30-45 minutes total. The fronts are much more of a weekend project.

You could jack it up, remove wheels, etc. Just didn't find it necessary.

 

so JTDTacoma no rub issues at all with the 265/70's do you think you could fit a 275 or even a 285 or would you start to rub?

 

No rubbing now but I've heard that's the largest tire that'd fit. Not sure if going up .85 would change that or not?

 

Good point. Yeah the back was an easy DIY. The fronts I also did myelf but I took the spring/shock assembly to a tire shop and had them compress springs and swap shocks out for $60. Avoiding serious injury was worth more than $60 to me.

 

When I changed my front shocks I just rented a spring compressor from autozone and did it in about an hour. But you will deffinitly need something to compress the spring!

 

I have the tsb with 5100's all the way around. Big difference in rear with these over stock trd bilsteins and even a bigger difference with non trd shocks. Go for it
