BudBuilt Skids...

You guys think this is worth it? It looks like a lot of protection but its almost 1K if you get it powder coated!!

Yup the $$'s are right up there I agree, but I got them anyway and from what I see, now that I have them, there's not gonna be much to worry about after the install. I'm not a "rock crawler" but do my fair share of off roading (Colorado), 4x4 trails and rock, not boulder, infested trails. I elected BudBuild cause Toyota left lots of "undercarriage stuff" unprotected, or poorly protected at best, so I felt I needed to take charge and rectify the situation. There are not many options and after researching and asking questions, BudBuild was my peace of mind when on the trails.

Since you have a 2nd gen check out Armor Tech Offroad skids.

 

I concur with this and would strongly suggest spray painting them yourself or have a local shop spray them the next time they do black and have some extra paint left in the pot which for most shops is most everyday that ends with a "Y".

No personal experience with ATO but can say that I'd gladly do business with BudBuilt again and actually plan to for my newest truck.

 

$800+ish is about what a set of real skids is going to cost you.

Budbuilt is fine.

 

I have a full set of bud skids on my truck and they rock, wouldnt run anything else. Bud is top notch and so is his stuff.

 

Just ordered a set of Buds myself. I'll be painting them in my garage with Rustoleum, I agree that powdercoat is a waste on skids/sliders and maybe even bumpers.

 

Wow guys thanks for all the input! I am not a big rock crawler either, but I just want to make sure everything is protected with such a big investment and its my daily driver... I will check out ATO as well. Thanks again!

 

If you're really trying to save money just buy your own sheet of metal , cut to fit, and have a fab/metal shop bend the pieces for you. 200 bucks tops.

 

I'm gonna go budbuilt when I get my skids since with ATO you have to cut and relocate the Y cross over exhaust pipe and with budbuilt it has a spacer so you don't have to do that.
