Ok..well what shitty day I am having now. Stop at the grocery store after the dealership, then came home. Parked in the garage and I hear air coming from the driver side rear tire. I jack it and take the tire off. I have a puncture between the tread. I told the wife to pick me up a plug kit on the way home from work.

Anyway...I paid $318.63 for the 30K maintenance and oil change.

They checked off that my air filter needs replacement on the multipoint inspection sheet but did not put the show on with bringing out the old dirty one into the waiting area and telling me I should replace it. I guess I'll have the wife pick it up at the store too.

    Here is the breakdown:

    Labor $201.99
    • install new plugs
    • rotate tires
    • oil change
    • 30K multipoint inspection
    Parts: $106.64
    • filter - $5.41
    • oil - $47.94
    • gasket/oil plug (LOL guess they wear are fast) - $1.13
    • washer fluid - $2.00
    • element sub-as (Whats That?) - $27.00
    • 6 spark plugs - $23.16

    Enviromental: $10
    (no tax in Delaware)

I'm confused, you are mad at them for not putting on the show? And wait, you got an oil change, a plug change, and a rotation for less then 210 out the door in labor? What exactly is your qualm?

Plugs charge 1.5, oil change is .7, vehicle inspection is 1.0, and rotation is .5

That is a total of 3.7 hours. At 100-120/hr that is 370-444 pre-tax.

Parts are what they are, can't argue those unless you go somewhere that isn the dealer.

Um... if you read my post that brought this thread back to life, I have no prob with the price I paid. I'm not mad at them for not putting on the show, but I would think they would at least offer to replace the part that they say needs immediate attention. I found that strange. This is my follow up post when I got home. :)

Sorry confused you with the Jim guy and yes that is interesting that they didn tell you about it. We never put "the show on" though, just informed the customer on whether it needed to be replaced.

That is probably true, I do not doubt that.

The service required for 30k was not the service I was quoted for nor was it on the check list they used to perform the service. When I asked if they would grease the drive shafts I was told it was not required when it clearly was.

Needless to say the price I paid for a front end alignment was not a bad price at all, only $30 more than what was quoted at Goodyear. I wont be using the dealer in question for any future service work, not a big deal since we have 5 pretty good size Toyota Dealers in Jax, FL.

Not to be a dick but is there anyway you could break that up into a couple sentences so I can read it. I don't know what you are trying to say.

Yes I do, and no they said it was not required, so I was not charged. I asked her to have the tech grease the drive line and she said "it's not required"...

All I am saying is the dealer is supposed to provide "xyz" service at certain intervals for a Tacoma. "Xyz" May or May not be required for what ever model of Tacoma or Toyota model you bring into the service dept. The service managers "should" know this, and not all services are change oil, filter, air filter, cabin air filter and tire rotation and multi point inspection and that's it. Which is basically what they (this dealer)charge you for. Probably why the price is only $170. Which seems to me like a one size fits all service for non lifetime warranty vehicles. This is not correct and not what I would expect from a big Toyota dealership.

Prices did not seem out of hand for any of it other than the cabin air filter change. I find it hard to believe its $55 worth of parts and labor and a tire rotation is only worth $17 worth of labor.

So dealer work is over priced? From what I have seen on this thread alone dealer work for a 30k service ranges from $170 to $1k.... I can see why some people complain.

I am not complaining about dealer service price (aside from cabin air filter replacement charge), but from what I see is there is no standard when it comes to dealer service. No standard maintenance schedules ie. 30k tacoma requires xyz service, no standard price, no standard labor price, nothing. You would think as what is essentially a franchise they would have some sort of basic/minimum standard set for ALL dealers.

I can see a swing in price say 300-600 for a certain service interval but from this thread alone it's a $830 difference between just a 30k service. Who knows what kind of difference a 50k, 75, 100 or even 150k service would be.
