thinking of downsizing to two door taco

hello fellas, i have a 07 taco four door full bed 4x4, and i wanted to know if any of you went from one of these to a 2 door acess cab taco? i can fit my baby in theback of those also, and i was thinking it will be more fuel effeciant since it has to carry less weight. idrive by myself most of the time to work so i dont need all that extra room, do you guys think its worth it to trade for an 08 or 09 two door acess cab 4x4 truck? any of you get better gas mileage in the smaller 4x4 trucks or is it the same? thanks

 

Does an Access cab really get better gas mileage than yours?
I have 07 Access cab 4.0L, auto....with tonneau cover, 34lbs in tires, AFE air filter and I've been getting 18-19mpg half city/half highway. Not bad....
But it is that much better?

I dunno.... For the amount of money you've paid off on the current truck, versus the extra expense of a new truck & fiancing...is it really worth it?

Once you go with the access cab, you migth be wishing you had the extra room.

 

I wouldn't do it. You will miss the extra room and for a 1-2 mpg improvement you will never break even with payments, etc. If you drive 30,000 miles a year and get 20 mpg in a access cab compared to 18 mpg in a double cab and gas is $3.80 a gallon you will save... $633 dollars a year. Those are best case scenarios. What happens in a few years when your kid has grown up? Gonna trade the access cab for a double? IF you really want to save money on gas go buy a used 250cc motorcycle and you'll be breaking even within a few month and start saving money after, you'll still have the truck for when you need it and can lane share in California breaking through traffic.

 

main reason i am wanting to get smaller truck is, being able to get to more places on a smaller truck on off roading, i feel this is to big to take off roading, if it was my street queen i wouldnt really care about it, like i mention i have a wife and small kid , and they hardly ever go with me oin the truck, i usually drive her car if we do.

wow people are really grasping for straws for better fuel economy. don't do it it is not worth the loss u will take on the truck and like said above u will miss the room when it is gone.

 

I would stick with what you have but the bottom line is, if you aren't happy, get what will make you happy even if you have to take a (small?) loss on it. Paying for something you aren't happy with sucks. You won't get better MPG with the AC vs. the DC, though, so that shouldn't even be an issue.

 

im not too concerned about fuel economy since i have other beaters i can take to save money there, like i mentioned, i like the trd off road access cab because its has the diff lock in the rear and is much shorter. dont they make better seats on the 09's in the rear?

 

If you can afford to take the inevitable loss, why not? I'll tell you, though, that you're going to lose money over the short term and the long term. You can buy a lot of fuel for the difference caused by a few hundred pounds more weight so don't let that kind of false economy influence you.

 

The access cab really isn't shorter. It has a longer bed. The wheel base is identical unless you have a long bed DC. Then it's 13" difference. The locker can be added for cheaper than replacing the truck too. In the end it's your call, and your money. I'd rather have ARB air lockers front and rear along with the heavy duty compressor (fills up tires too) Save money keeping the better truck, throw on some good offroad parts with the money you save from not trading it in and you'll be happier than having a smaller cab on the same wheelbase with a locker in the back.

IMO the access cab is the best lookin! 4 doors means more folks wanting you to drive places!

 

You arent going to get any better gas milage with an Access Cab and you are going to lose a lot of money trading in a truck that is so new.
I say keep your Doublecab.

 

i have the dcab long bed currently that weighs 150 pounds more and is 13 inches longer.

 

lol, thats axxactly true, my friends that want me to keep it are the ones that dont have a truck and wanna go with me ....

 

Sounds like you want an AC. Sell your DC private party & go buy exactly what you want, bottom line is its your truck & money

 

If you want better millage, get an intake system, you will get more hp and millage and you dont have to sell ur dc truck

yeah its something to think about, i already have a k and n filter and a cat back exhasut, that might have helped a little. i just lifted it to , and after the lift i started to think that i should just get a shorter taco, instead of duming all this money into this truck, i am picking up some wheels for my truck this week, i will post pics of what i have
