Help! my rear suspension is shot

Hey guys, need some help with my truck because as of recently my repair shop told me my rear shocks are blown out and my springs are bending the other way and they showed me them.
Next they told me that new springs are about 5-600 a side but only suggested an add-a leaf.
The truck has 93000 on it and im not sure whats going to break next with my suspension components.

What should I do to replace the rear suspension? or should i just replace the whole front and back with something aftermarket?

I can afford $1000 for repairs and the labor but thats all.
Please help

Edit-I would like to avoid paying that much if possible. but i know, that's probably impossible

 

bilstein 5100 rear shocks for about $100 a pair, and OME Dakar leaf packs, maybe $500 for a pair.

I definitely recommend the 5100's for the rear. Rear shocks are super easy to replace and you could save some cash by doing it yourself.

Have you considered having the rear leaves re-arched? I have no experience with this but I have heard it done in some cases.

If you end up buying new spring packs, they are also very easy to install yourself.

 

Replace the whole pack 500 to 600 per side is highway robbery i payed just a little more then that for my whole suspension setup. Labor it where it's going to kill you so if you can I would do It yourself for about half the cost of what they quoted you.

 

Do some searching on here, you can find people selling off their stock leaf packs every so often and people sell off the stock bilsteins cheap also.

 

airbags...they're adjustable and work.
Too bad Toyota doesn't believe in decent springs.

 

I would say airbags because a Dakar pack and stock front would look frickin ridiculous.

if yours are shot and you want zero lift - pick up someone elses... most of the time they are close to free because people throw them away when they buy full leaf packs for lifts.

thats what you need for shocks.

and boom - you are done for under $200. Now you can install the shocks yourself in prolly 10 mins. And if you dont feel comfy pulling the leaf packs - take it to a tireshop and tell them exactly what you want. I bet they will do it for $100-$150 bucks. Now your total is ~$350-400 and you have upgraded your shocks and replaced your leafs (with equally "stock" leafs).

 

Curious what you did to your truck so's we can avoid it in the future.

Airbags rule. Still need new springs and shocks, but never again.
I would guess you were hauling crazy ass shit in the back of that thing to kill it. Or you were jumping it while carrying firewood.

AND YEA, like someone else said. You can get free or really cheap springs all the time from the lift-billies. Well... I guess most of them just block the rears, but you might find kid with more money that put in some new leaf packs.

 

DO you really want some drunks full of bbq doing work on your suspension?

My buddies mustang springs still grind and squeak because I put them in drunk (he wanted me to be paid in beer). Saw the spring silencers.. tossed them in the bbq.. thought it was funny at the time.

 

Fwiw 5100s are valved the same as stock, the difference will only be felt because the new shocks will not have faded.

I'm pretty sure op's major concern is cost, not lifting the truck.

Island 808-well what happened was my dad borrowed the truck to get some lumber, at least thats what he told me. When he returned he had 8 beams which were 8x8x12ft long in the back and weighed in at 250+ a piece. That is what i think the problem was haha. I talked to him last night about it and he accepted the blame.

So now they my dad has taken at least partial blame for it, he offered to match whatever I can make in order to repair/replace suspension parts front and back.

I guess that means it opens back up to, can i do something with aftermartket springs and do a 6 inch lift kit? price is no longer a concern. Ill try to get some pics up of the truck and the beams today for you guys.

Good news guys, it is settled. Billies 5100s all around and this company called plattsburgh springs is going to build them with a heavier spring rate for only 350 total. THanks for all the help tacomaworld dudes.
