Wiring a Leer camper shell

Just bought a leer 100r. It has a four prong connector to wire the dome and 3rd brake light. The problem is I dont know how to wire it up. Any help would be welcomed.

 

if it has a 4 prong, then you just plug that into your trailer wiring.

if your truck is wired for towing, yours will be a round 7 pin connection, and you'll need an adapter.

 

I just did this yesterday. Here is what I did. Note I had the 7 pin trailer port so I had to tap into the wires.

Purchase a 4 prong wire harness and some extra wire as the harness will likely not be long enough. You need about 5 feet of wire total. You can use water proof/heatshrink butt connectors to add wire to the harness. Remove the plastic side caps on the drivers side and feed the wire down the light cavity in the back. It may be easier to come out the 2" hole in the side of the cavity rather than trying to feed the wires all the way past the brake lights. Next, use a quick connect wire splice kit to tap into the wires on the 7 prong trailer port. On my 7 pin white was ground, brown was a tukrn signal, red was a turn signal and green was tail lights (I also had a cover over the port that indicated which of the 7 pins was what. I used that key to figure out the correct wires for the 4 pin adapter.) Be sure you splice into the wire a fair distance away from the 7 pin port as you won't be able to fit the plastic cover back on if you put all of them near the port. Finally, you can use liquid tape or electrical tape to cover it all up.

 

This only gives power to the interior (of the shell) light when the truck is running correct?

 

It also provides power to the exterior brake light on my shell.

 

is it switched?

 

Not that I am aware of.

 

it is a switched power connection, meaning...when the truck is off there is no power...
