mobil1 5w30 truck and suv full synthetic

so, has anyone tried the mobil1 fully synthetic 5w30 truck and suv oil. any difference between that and the "regular" 5w30 full synthetic?? just wondering, as i just picked up some for my 06 prerunner, figured id go ahead and switch to synthetic since im @ 20k now!! (also,mobil1 75w90 for my rear locker diff!!)

and one more question(although it may be kinda goofy).....do all the mobil1 filters, such as the m1-102 have anti-drainback valves in them?? im guessing that they do!

^ All oil filters made in the last 15+ years have the anti-siphon valves built-in. However, your high quality filters have better media stages and the anti-siphon valves will retain better flexibility in adverse and extreme conditions. Sometimes it's amusing to see people spend the extra money on synthetic oil but then skimp out by buying the cheapest oil filter. IMO, you would be better off saving your money, still buy the quality filter but use dino oil.

I put 5w-20 in my truck last oil change but thats because its all i had at work. next oil change im going with the mobil 1 full synthetic

people keep acting like full synthetic is a waste of money but i don't understand why. instead of changing your oil at 5k miles you can go as high as 15k miles between oil changes. Ideally you should do it at 10k but if you're busy you can put it off for a while. This cuts your oil changes down to about 1 or 2 per year depending on how much you drive. For me thats well worth the cost

Good point couch, I do axles, transfer case and tranny at every 10k. I think more people forget or let those intervals go for too long. I change the engine oil every 6 to 9k depending on how hard I drive and lately I've been running her real hard.

i change my oil every 5k, and i drive pretty hard also, and since im switching to synthetic, i think it will make it better, as far as im concerned anyway. ive seen how good synthetic actually is, so i dont have a problem spending a little extra for it. when i switched my wifes honda accord to syn., it actually made the motor run cooler.

The other benefit nobody talks about is Milage, check it out. I think that if you do the math you will find that going to full synthetic pays for itself at around 3k miles if you go to 5k you are making money!

I'm at about 3600 miles. When i hit 5k im gonna change to full synthetic and change the oil every 10 to 12k. I know we got a lot of auto techs on this site as well as alot of people who just know cars.... what brand do you guys recoment most? Also, i use 20w-50 in the Beamer but not exactly sure what to use in the Taco. I was thinking 5w-30. I think the dealership uses 5w-20 but that seems a little thin, i really want to coat and protect my engine. I appreciate any suggestions.

I use Castrol Syntec 5-30, I think thats what the dealer uses. I also went with a bigger filter and check my oil level every other day. I hit the grease fittings on the drive shaft every other week with Lucas red and tacky #2. I just went over 13,000 miles and have changed the oil twice.

Are you using synthetic in the tranny and differentials? If so what kind?

when i changed over from dino to synthetic today,i also changed my rear diff oil (e-locker) to mobil1 75w90. alot of good gear oils out there....mobil1, amsoil, redline, royal purple(all these are synthetic mostly)....and these are all very good for rear diffs. if you have a lsd(limited slip diff), youll probably need to use lsd additives. you can use a synthetic on the 6 speed manuals, but not on the autos(05 and up anyway), because its toyota's ws fluid, and no one matches it yet, i dont think.

Wow man......I can smell the colors already.....Oops...not that lsd....anyway, most lsd hypoid gear oils are synthetic that are currently on the market...

ndcouch.....20w50 in South Carolina? Wow....that is some really thick sh_t....If you get really cold winter temps, I hope you're using a thinner oil in the wintertime...

Nope. The beamer is a 1990 325i with well over 200k miles (don't know how many cause the odometer quit working a while ago). Anyway, i need to protect the engine cause i pretty much drive it like i stole it, she runs at high rpms constantly. No after market engine mods but i did switch out the suspension to Bilstein Sport and it has a limited slip rear diff. it's not the fastest car on the road but you have to be driving something pretty impressive to keep up with it in the turns. The winters don't get cold enough here for me to bother changing oils with the seasons. Besides, new BMW's suck out loud but the old ones are built like tanks. It's a 2.5 liter inline 6 and still has plenty of pull for a 17 year old engine with roughly a quarter of a million miles on it. Anyway, i'm just gonna drive it till the engine blows and then i'm gonna drop something in it with more power. I actually want the engine to blow on me but the thing just won't stop running.

i know this is getting off topic but...i live in mass and had a 91 vw passat before my tacoma and ran 20w50, even all winter. the manual called for it. the thing just runs hot. the guy at the auto store said he thought i was buying for a race car till i told him.
