Toyota Hilux 3.0 Liter D-4D is already the right size for the 2nd gens. All they would have to do is choose to put it in

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
    Nailed it.
A Hino 4cyl turbocharged and intercooled, mated to a nice 6sp automatic would be sweet.
A Cummins like in the Dodges would twist our frames like a pretzel.

yes - i was scratching my head as to why someone would ask that when they already make a truck with a diesel engine... unless there were some serious issues with that engine existing in the US.

Whoever said Isuzu is out is incorrect. GM sold their shares of Isuzu off and guess who bought them up??? Toyota did. I voted other becasue Isuzu makes one fo the best small block diesel engines and ownes the Japanese market for diesels. I beleive the Toyota 2.5 and 3.0 diesles are made with Isuzu technology.

I think that the "d4d" diesel engine would look right at home under the hood! :D

Yeah, doesn't the Hilux already have a nice 3.0L D4-D? Why not just use that...

I dont think they would use another manufactures engine, if they already make one themselves.

They just need to get it EPA certified. (from what I know)

Depnds on the economics of it. They are already in bed with Subaru for that new sport coupe based on the Impreza. The Subie diesel is probably too small for a truck anyhow. I think Kubota makes a vehicle diesel too.

I think the ones in the Liberty were Italian. Can't think of the name of them. But I think Benz uses there diesels too.

We have 2 trucks with the cummins 11L diesel (40,000lb range volvos), and a few 6.6 in dodges. Ive seen a 3.3L and a 3.9L(4 cyl of the 6 cyl 5.9). although neither is suitable for a tacoma based on emssions, I'd like to see them of the 3 brands listed in a Tacoma, Hino would be fine too. Just not a powerstroke please, they break too much at work.
