S_A_Aceman,

Not trying to get on your nerves I swear but what the dealership would have done in that situation would be to fix both of the TSB issues and turn it in under another vehicle or backed your mileage up to under 36k either way toyota would have paid for both of those fixes.

I'm not trying to cause problems.... I just know after 18 years how dealerships work......you don't have to believe me. Just trying to spread some info.

Well if you re-read my post earlier... they DID match the APR my credit union had approved me for, which is the rate for oustanding credit. It was almost 6... i want to say like 5.7 or 5.8%.
When I accepted the warranty, they dropped it to 5.0% even. $3 more per month for 6 year 75k bumper to bumper seemed like a no brainer.

They were able to do that because they made more on the warranty than the .7 or .8 difference in the apr would have made them.

20k Financed for 60 months at 5.7% vs. 5.0% would save you (cost them) $387 over the term of the loan. I am sure they made more than that on the warranty, extended warranties are a very high profit margin.

Obviously they made money on the APR... but "technically" speaking, $3 more per month, that warranty only cost me about $200 in the end.

Anthony,

If you got a extended warranty for $200 I can promise you that is the best price on a extended warranty I have ever seen in my life.

Then again if you bought a 6 year 75k warranty all you actually got was 1 year and 15k miles because the Toyota warranty already goes through 5 years or 60k miles on powertrain and thats about all the extended warranty would cover anyway.

Trust me on this one.......its one of the few things I know.

I'm not trying to cause problems.... I just know after 18 years how dealerships work......you don't have to believe me. Just trying to spread some info.
I had other issues NOT covered by the extended warranty (mud flap failure) and fought with 2 dealerships over it, complained to coorporate, then back t othe dealers, and NO SOLUTION. I agree that your possible solution to my TSBs "could" have happened, but there was no way in hell I could get either of my simi-local dealers to bend the rules for me like that. I did however get the one to do my rear spring simply by asking for it to be completed, with no demonstration of a actual problem.

I do agree, extended warrantees are FAR TOO OFTEN a ripoff. Too many people never use them when they could, and even more never truely need it. But... that one time you needed it and didnt have it is the one time that will change your mind forever. My footing the bill for all that work would have prevented it from ever happening. Im just barely able to keep from loosing my truck and house right now, the last thing I need is to have to worry about a repair bill that could have been covered if I had only save a little money when I bought my truck. Money very well spent in my case. And a future owner of a USED truck should look at it the same way. He has no idea how the truck has been cared for... that warrantee is the security blanket that makes the higher price a little more comfortable.

Well, so to speak, it cost me $200. The options I had were:
Option A: $300 per month for truck only, 60 months @ 5.75% APR.
Or
Option B: $303 Per month with ext warranty for 60 months @ 5.0% APR.
They made the $200 + however much the difference was for X Amount financed at .7% APR over the term.

The ext warranty is 6 year/75k Bumper to Bumper, not powertrain with $50 deductible on the Platinum Service Plan.

How the heck did you lower your payment $137 and take one year off of your term? Thats a better deal than the warranty.

I have 18 years experience and you have a 2008 Tacoma Prerunner that the total payoff going by your own figures is $31,464
Who do you think knows more about the car business... me or you???

Was just using that as an example. I should have clarified i guess.

$3 x 72 = $216. Still doesnt change anything I said earlier.

My payoff amount as of now is exactly what I said though, $25,900.
