Last night my check engine light came on and this morning I went out on the highway and I noticed that the tranny didn't shift all the way up to the top gear, 5th. I pulled over to the side and started out again and same thing, no top gear. Crappy thing is I can't get to a dealer until Tues because I have to use my truck to pick up a used boat I just bought today. No problems with it until to today, 38500 miles on it.

Against popular advice I towed the boat and then took the truck in and right now the tech thinks it's either a sensor or a chewed up wire harness. I am leaning towards the chewed wires since I did see a chipmunk sitting on the top of my tire a little more than a week ago which I had forgot about until I talked to the service manager and he brought it up. Time to buy some pellets for some target practice. The chipmunks must pay.

Service manager called me today and the tech found the eaten harness. It's not in an easy spot to get too which means big $$$$ for labor to replace a $100 part. My insurance is sending an adjuster to look at it so hopefully it gets approved. Man I wish it had been a bad transmission, that would have been warranty work.

I told my co-workers that if they hear PETA complaining about lifeless chipmunks they know who to blame.

Anyone have experience with this type of thing? Did the vehicle start throwing weird errors later on due to unseen damage or faulty dealer work? I'm almost thinking about trading it for another truck a year newer.

If they replaced the harness you won't get anymore problems unless those little fookers chew on something else. Trading may work but how you know you wo't get a car that those little fookers like even more then Toyota.
Get BB gun and have your revenge. Its only way you can protect that truck. Best time is early morning. If you ever in NE and you see a guy in underpants with Remington, coffee mug next to him and Cig in his mouth yelling "Eat lead little biatches" dont be frighten.:D

The final diagnosis and fix is rodent chewed through the knock sensor harness and the computer was showing a P0333 code - high input for knock sensor. Tech replaced the harness and it it shifts fine now. They also performed the accelerator pedal recall and reflashed the transmission. I figured they would and didn't really mind when I saw it on the bill. The pedal looks fine.
