mpg wars

wazzup, i own a 06 4x4 4cyl tacoma and been contemplating if i should change the stock hood with a carbon fiber to reduce weight and hope to increase mpg... is it worth it?

 

i wouldn't think so, but I'm only guessing

 

im not sure but i doubt it'd make a difference.
cause the hood is a little part of weight compared to the rest of the truck

i cant imagine. i mean in the long run, mathematically with the understanding that less weight = better gas mileage, yes it would be worth it. but i would think it would take a very long time to "pay for itself" if you get what im saying.

 

Its a truck for gods sake, if you want good mileage get a civic.

 

Anything that decreases weight and doesn't increase drag will help city mpg theoritically (not highway), but you will not notice the difference because the weight difference is minimal I'm guessing. Better investment would be highway tires at the proper size (245/75r16) and driving slower on the highway.

 

Depends on the price of the hood, I suppose.

Carbon fiber is insanely expensive...and you would never get that money back due to the slight increase in MPG's.

 

decreasing drag and diminishing your highway RPM would be the best way to save fuel on a tacoma. Such a small change in vehicle weight (5lbs less = 0.1% ) would never pay for itself.

Something that I really think that would pay for itself would be a change in final ratio gears, to get lower and more economic highway RPMs. 10-15% economy would easily be achievable if I look how my scangauge act VS RPMs

 

There is no way a carbon hood is going to increase your mpg's. That wasnt a serious question, was it?

 

I can think of one but its not enough to notice.

better than that ^. . . take a piss, shit and yak everytime before you get in you taco. think about how much weight you would end up not carrying around. thus, saving more gas than a carbon fiber hood would if you ask me. bingo!

I had an 05 F-150 and it gave 10 mpg. Its gone..My Tacoma is getting 19 and I only have 900 miles on it so far..

 

I piss everyday before I leave work, extra mpg!
