hey everyone looking in to the whole cb idea, i travel 170miles one way to work a week, and i thought it would be good to know whats going on around me. i dont know if i want to put a CB system in my truck, but i saw that thier are portiable ones on the market, my question is are they worth it??

I have several hand held units and they aren't worth a shait. The way I did mine was cig lighter plug, velcro on the CB sticks like a mo fo to the carpet right below the center console, "Lil Will mag base antenna made by wilson. I can have it in or out in 2 minutes. Thats about as portable as it gets and still have a good cb. Thats my .02 Hope this helps

I have a portable with a magnetic mount antenna. The setup does work but that speaker sure sucks in it. Cobra brand and a Midland as well. The Velcro to the carpet idea with a full sized one does seem best though to get a decent speaker and be portable as well.

Your right on the speaker, I used to have an external in the coin tray but it went south a couple of years ago. Just have to turn it up a lil louder tats all.

A good thread for handheld CB's:

The Midland 75-822 looks good.
