What is this loud popping noise when I turn my front wheels out of a parking spot?

I was getting a similar noise with my Truck. It was the steering stops. They needed some grease. Does this happen when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left or the right (full lock)? just another suggestion.

No, just with a slight turn when reversing out of a parking spot, then "METAL POP" then again "METAL POP" back to straight when moving forward to drive away.

That's the same noise I get but only reversing to the right. Do you have the stock anti-sway bar? Perhaps removing it may get rid of the noise and further isolate the root cause.

I have been having the same noise for about a month now. I have checked everything I possibly can. I am taking the truck to my mechanic next week, so I will update you when they figure it out.

Had the same problem with my 05 double cab 2wd. it was the lower control arm bolt. the lca on the passenger side was not tightened after an alignment was done. no problem since torqueing it to 100 ft-lb

Check the slip joints/knuckle joints in your steering column. Sometimes you can 'lube' them quiet with grease if this is the problem.

I have the same problem going down driveways in full lock. I hear a loud metal pop/clunk. My truck is lifted 3 inches with bigger tires.

X2 look at your lower control arm and see if there is a shiny spot where the steering stop touches the control arm.

I have also been experiencing a loud "pop" sound from my passenger side. 2WD Base, no lift, 225/75 over 215/75. Sounds kinda bad honestly.

It seems to mostly happen when backing up and turning the wheel left at or near full lock. It has happened several times, while making right cornerning moves, with foot on the brake. I've also had it happen several times under sudden/hard braking.

I've checked several things already mentioned, I'll check again with a few more ideas from this thread. I have checked LCA cam bolts, but I'll check them again.

Noise seems to happen with truck in more stressful spots, I try to take it easy to prevent the noise.

    Found the issue this afternoon.

The R-LCA was popping at the caster (rear) eccentic/nut/bushing. On alignment turn-tables you could see the wheel "pop" and a coworker spotted the LCA movement at the rear bushing. LCA nuts are supposed to be torqued to 155 Ft-Lbs.

I didn't hear anything on the way home, I did take it kinda easy, I did however do a fair amount of turning/backing up/wheel turning, etc when I got in the parking lot at home, no sounds so far.

I do still have some wheel shimmy at highway speeds, but I does seem improved, still think I've got a tire issue with one of my tires.
