Thanks for the write up, did mine this weekend while recoating the frame. I used Mobil1 75w90 synthetic. The transfer case oil wasn't bad at all, looked unused for the most part, but the front diff was murky black at 33k miles. I had the truck completely up on jacks and level... Transfer case took exactly 1.1 qt, front diff took exactly 1.5 qt.

I also took care of all 5 zerks on the drive shafts, just put it in neutral and the rear drive shaft turns easily ( at least with the rear wheels off). $800 for this service is ridiculous...

Heres a tip.. Getting to the front diff openings is a little easier if you take off the front drivers side wheel. And always always always open the fill ports first before the drain!

Technically it holds 1.6 so if you were slightly off level or didn't fully drain, then it would. But you want to go until it leaks back out the fill hole anyways

So do I need to add the lsd additive to the front diff also? Like i do for the rear diff?

Just changed both diffs and the tcase at 30k.

Both diffs were very dark and the drain plugs had a thick gooey sludge on them but the tcase fluid was as clean as the new stuff I put in.

Probably a waste on the tcase but I suppose it's good for peace of mind anyway.

I've never changed the gear oil on my 2010 trd 4x4 off road, currently 57k. I'm going to do this before 60k.

the only place I can do this is on my driveway, which is not level. is it better for rear of the truck to be higher? I change engine oil in my driveway and keep the front on the higher side since the oil drain hole is towards the rear. not sure if this is the best position for differential oil change. I want the fill hole to be on the higher side right? I can see the fill hole for rear and transfer case facing the rear, so I should make the front of the truck on the lower side of the driveway so I don't underfill? or it should not really matter?

I think my truck has auto lsd, so I do not need lsd additive right? I plan on using mobil 1 75w90 like op

    thanks

That's what I was thinking as well, the noise I use to hear that sounded like the wheel bearing roaring at low speeds has gone away since changing the diff... So I'm not to sure gonna have to jack it up and see if any play on the wheels?

no, for a sport I think you DO need the additive in the rear. you don't for the front. There's a lot of diff oils out there that have the LSD additive already in it. Mobil 1 synthetic 75-90 for instance has LSD additive.

Don't all newer trucks(minus TRD Offroad) have LSD that uses the brakes not mechanical LSD..meaning..you don't need the additive unless you have an older model.(forgot if it was 05+ use brakes instead of mechanic or not.)

The mechanical LSD that required the additive was done away with several years ago. I think 2008 or 2009 was the last year for it.

Is it bad to use an oil that has the additive?

Not from what I've read. It's ok to use it when not needed but if you need it and don't use it you'll have issues.

Just got done changing my front axle gear oil for the third time and have a little issue. lol After pumping in the new oil and tightening everything up, cleaning up and I pulled the drain pan out and uh oh.
Looked into the pan and I could see the copper washer that BELONGS on the drain plug laying at the bottom. I'm not draining the axle to put it back on. lol Is this going to be a problem ?

    Thanks

Just keep an eye on it, see if it's leaking. If it's not leaking I imagine you're just fine.
