For the US guys chiming in , your pricing and the reality of prices in Canada are definitely not the same thing .

how could you know the interest rates 5 years from now on the $15000 balance?

For $572 the rate is locked for 72 months. (far less than the amount of time you will be paying if you have to take a 4 year loan to pay it off.)

Something is not right with your math.

they will knock a bit of money off the lease as well because they like that better. then NEVER have any used tacomas on the lots and want them

 

I will easily have the money to pay it off then. Thats the factor that made me decide 100% on the lease

True enough but the cost of money is the same and that's what you are paying extra for in the end as well as the inflated price of the vehicle.

The point is leasing is for those who really cannot afford to buy so they will rent believing they will buy it someday. It is the beginning of perpetual car payments which if that is ok fine, enjoy. I hate to see people put themselves deep in debt for something that will have less and less value every year while the payment remains the same.

Personally I would not "lease" a vehicle I could not afford to buy unless it was paid for by business income and written off as such. We can only share personal experience and people can agree or not.

From a financial standpoint the OP is better off buying a $25,000 truck used and paying on it for 5 years. Buy someone elses lease out.

Well I know I will be able to buy it. I want to. But to pay double the interest makes no sense to me. 1.7 vs 3.7 for 5 years saves you alot. I like to hear other opinions though, always different views that may change someones mind.

Im thinking just value though. I hate not getting the best out of my money. I have $158 k left on our house and its got 4 years 6 months more payments. I fingure I can easily use extra cash I would be putting down on it to pay the truck off, thats all

Then buy what you want. Don't settle, especially when borrowing money. With $3000` "extra" a month in 5 years after the house is paid off you will likely want a new truck then..becasue they will look different...and you will rationalize the payments becasue you will not have to make a house payment.

 

Learn what these words mean:
Capitalized cost, Money factor and Residual value, and understand One of the major issues with leases is you are in a state of zero or negative equity as long as you are obligated. The dealer has both your obligation as well as ownership of your truck. Good deal for them.

If you've got a family or planning on one, go with the double cab.
I've never been a fan of leasing. Seems like throwing away money to me, but sometimes its good if you plan on trading up every few years or if money is tight.
