2011 suffers from rear Suspension TSB problem

ok, I've been spending way to much time reading instead of working
reading thru the threads on the Suspension TSB problem it seems the 3 pack leaf springs are replaced with a 4 pack and new shocks. Well my 2011 double cab only has 3 leaf springs and skinny little shocks in the rear. Is it possible my new 2011 suffers from the rear Suspension TSB problem?

If so how could i go about getting it fixed since the TSB only states thru 2010?

Load it up with about 300 or 400 pounds and drive it around. If you have a really harsh ride going over speed bumps and bumpy roads then you should get them swapped out. If you don't really haul much around in the bed of your truck and like the ride the way it is then don't change them.

 

Even when/if they include 2011 with the TSB fix it will not totally solve the problem. My truck had the TSB 4-pack installed and it still sags to the bump stops with a full load of firewood. The TSB will help but it's not a quick fix for the problem.

You don't need to do it just because you can. Stiffer leaf pack = harsher ride quality, so unless you really think you are going to be maxing it out on a regular basis I would leave it alone. I don't take mine in unless its really a problem they might mess up something else in the process.

 

I had 4 guys in the truck, and a bit of ice fishing gear, not a ton of weight, and was riding the bump stops in my 2011 dcor. Post tsb, not an issue, and i find the ride to have been improved.
Do with it what you will, but the truck is better imo, post tsb. Besides, i like knowing that 4 guys and some gear isnt too much for my tacoma. My old 4runner was overloaded many times, and never once hit the bump stops...

I dont load it down a lot but on occasion I'll toss the riding mower in the back or a few bags of fertilizer.
Guess I'll load it down and see how it shakes out.

Dan that sounds like a plan. You have a brand new truck, so give yourself some time with it before you do something you might regret.

Mine are on dealer order and will be replaced as soon as they come in. The "11s" only get springs and an alignment shocks are latest rev. The 4 leaf springs are stock for Canada so they can't ride all that poorly. Maybe they are putting the US springs on the Canadian trucks that they take off because of the hard ride!

 

You have until your 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is up to decide if you need it done.

 

My 2005 DC bottomed out over speed bumps or any bumps with 4 people or a load in the bed.

My 2010 (also 3 leaf springs) does NOT... So, they improved the springs (at least on my Baja made 2010 truck).

I find it hard to believe that they only made some better springs since 2005 and some Tacos are still bottoming out up to this model year?

The 2005 harsh ride was solved with Ride Rite air bags and Bilstein 5100 shocks... was perfect after I did that... Dealer wouldn't help and I didn't know about TW or TSB back then.

 

The first and probably only important question is: do you experience an actual problem?

I've loaded down my '09 AC with 500+ pounds now, and driving it around even on rough country gravel roads there is absolutely no problem with the rear suspension. I have the factory 3-leaf springs.

 

Toyota did something new to the 2009's which I believe they thought would mitigate the bottoming out issues. Obviously it does not. See my post here about that.

Anyways, I had the TSB completed on my 2009 4x4 OR DC in September 2009. My problem report was simple. I was bottoming out with my camping gear in the bed while driving on a gnarly back-country service roads. I knew something wasn't right and did some searching and found TacomaWorld and the rest of you good folks.

I read about the T-SB-0305-08.pdf for the rear springs, and it seemed like it would solve my problem.

Next I verified the parts numbers for my factory leaf packs were identical to replaced parts in the TSB. The part numbers are on the top of the springs.






I took pictures of the underside of the truck bed to show where the bump stops were hitting.



It was very clear I was bottoming out because it was dusty as hell everywhere except where the bump stops make contact. Duh? this should be a no brainer. I printed the TSB and went to the stealership.

To make a long story short, the approval for the TSB came not from the dealer but from a regional guy who works for Toyota and services the southern California region. At the time the '09's were not officially covered by the TSB.

I bought the truck to access the many remote areas of the southwest while camping and climbing. After many months of wheeling I can say confidently that I feel that my truck is much better equipped to do that now.

However, based on how I use my truck I don't expect the TSB springs to last beyond three years, at which point I'll probably go with some custom springs.

Loaded my 2010 ac with 700lbs.. Bottomed out.. Had them replaced yesterday per TSB ride is a little stiffer and definitely lifted the rear. Dealer ordered them had them in within a day and replaced in 3 hrs and free alignment.

 

Just had mine done today on a 2011 TRD 4 door, it does ride a little rougher but I like it to ride like a real truck so its not a problem for me. They added a leaf and new shocks

 

2011 DC SR5 done today. Rear was noticeably lower with camper and tool box. Dealer changed no problem. 4 leaf pack. New spring numbers are 48210-04571 and 48210-04211. Sits good and feels much better.
